Hi I'm Ryan

I am a computer science major and seminary teacher who loves reading, napping and games. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I feel like I am a very typical American 20-something who is attending college, has gotten married and is enjoying life. My wonderful wife and I have been married for over two and a half years and she is my everything. She supports me, loves me and motivates me. I could not imagine life without her. I love reading books of almost any kind, especially by the author Brandon Sanderson. I thoroughly enjoy a good video game or board game. I love discussions of economics and politics and I have no intention of pursuing either in any way other than as a hobby.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have felt the confirming influence of the Holy Ghost testify to me that Jesus Christ truly did appear to Joseph Smith and that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet of God to restore the fullness of the Gospel to the earth. Through that same Spirit, even the Holy Ghost, I have come to know that the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine & Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price are all holy scripture that testify of Jesus Christ and His Atonement. I know, for myself, that God is my Father in Heaven and that He loves me. I know that He has a Plan for His children. I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father for sending the Holy Ghost to me and confirming the truthfulness of this divine work. I also know, much like the man who proclaimed to Jesus, "I believe! Lord, help my unbelief." that I still have unanswered questions and I still lack a perfect knowledge of all things. I have firm faith, however, that in His own time the Lord will make known all things to me. Until then I will hold to the answers I have and seek to add more to them! The greatest thing about my testimony is that I know it is not unique. The Lord will truly reveal these same things to anyone who asks with a sincere heart and a desire to both know and to act on any knowledge they receive from the Lord. An oft quoted scripture in my church is James 1:5-6 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. [...]" I know this to be true. The Lord does give to all people liberally and none who seek knowledge with the desire to act on it will be denied.

How I live my faith

I teach early morning seminary (scripture study class) to the high school kids in our local congregation every weekday morning from 6:00am to 6:45am. We read from the scriptures, discuss the words of the prophets and seek to invite the Holy Spirit into our day from the very start! It truly is one of the most uplifting and edifying callings (assignment) that I have done! I also went on a two year mission when I was 19 to Japan. I spent those two years among the Japanese people preaching and teaching of Jesus Christ to any who would listen. Those two years brought me closer to my Savior than the previous twenty put together. I love Jesus Christ and am so grateful to Him for all he has done for me! Outside of my church activities and responsibilities I strive my hardest to emulate the example of Jesus Christ in my day-to-day life. I try to always show love and compassion, I seek to encourage and uplift those around me and I work to set an example, in both word and deed, of what a Christian should be. One of the greatest compliments I have ever received was when a friend, who doesn't believe in any religion right now, told me that I was best example of a Christian he had ever met. I was so happy to know that, even if only in a small way, I had helped my friend learn a little of Jesus Christ.
