Hi I'm Jacob

I a missionary, called to serve in the Cuiaba, Brazil Mission. I love tango, the outdoors, swimming, and learning new things.

About Me

My opening scene begins in a hospital. Most lives begin the same way, but thankfully everyone has the opportunity to go their own way, and in my opinion I have done just that. I honestly don’t remember much about my younger years, but my fondest memories begin with my first flock of chickens. I had bugged my parents for what seemed like ages to a five-year-old, and finally they consented. I still have chickens and enjoy them just as much as I did back then. I have enjoyed a vacation full of skiing in Utah that still rivals the skiing adventures I have had in my home state of Vermont. I have seen much of the United States and have visited notable landmarks like Yellowstone National Park, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Mississippi River and Gettysburg. Gardening has always been a hobby; only a chore when it required weeding. Family time has always been important to me. Tropical Storm Irene taught me the value of good friendships and the need for a strong family as we rebuilt my home after it was flooded. Theatre, F.I.R.S.T. Robotics, college courses, camp counseling, tango classes, old jazz music, books, religious work, service, lifeguarding, and sports currently hold my attention. Deep down inside me though rests the twelve-year-old history nut, the ever enterprising capitalist, and plain old goofball. I can’t say much more, but this; I am in love with my life, even with its many ups and downs.

Why I am a Mormon

My father was Catholic and the rest of his family still are. My mother and her family are converts. My mother introduced my father to the gospel when they were young and traveling with Up With People. He studied and researched the gospel with help from missionaries and after much prayer and consideration accepted the gospel. I struggled with my conversion, even though I was brought up in a faithful LDS home. I have a plethora of experiences that have both strengthened my testimony and made me question it, but through it all I have found the message of love and service with an eye centered on perfection through Jesus Christ is why I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I have always been active in my community whether it was through a service project, a theater production, or sports and music event. My association with the Boy Scouts of America, F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Competition, along with the youth and adult groups in the church have encouraged me volunteer and share my abilities and talents with others. Whether it is for enjoyment or learning showing integrity and faith not only impress others, but lift them up as well.
