Hi I'm Rachel Knighton

I am from South Jordan, Utah. I'm preparing to serve a mission in the Brazil Sao Paulo Interlagos Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to sing! I was in all sorts of choirs in high school and loved every second of it! I also love to play the piano! I have been playing for over 14 years! I love musicals, but I'm no expert! I was in a few of them in high school and just had a blast! I love to cook (especially sweets)! I will be attending BYU when I return home from my mission to Brazil! Besides Brazil, I have never traveled out of the country! I have taken lots of road trips with my family around the western United States though! We love to go camping and build camp fires and roast marshmallows! I love living near the mountains because they are absolutely beautiful!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, because I know for myself that it is true. I have read the Book of Mormon, and studied it. I have prayed to know if it is true! I was born into the gospel, and it's always been part of my life. Even though my parents are members, they aren't the reason why I choose to stay in the church. It's something I have figured out for myself! Also, because I follow the teachings and guidelines, I am happy. Heavenly Father knows what each of us are going through, and he knows about our strengths and weaknesses. He has given us commandments and standards to live so that we can be the most happy and most successful in our lives. The only way I know that they are true is because I live them. I promise I am so much more happy and joyful in living the standards and commandments, than I would be if I didn't! I'm not perfect, and I mess up often. Another reason why I am a Mormon, is because I can repent and keep trying to be the best Rachel I can be. Jesus Christ made it possible so we can all return to live with our Heavenly Father again. If we repent of our sins and do our best everyday, then we will live with Him again. The church is all about second chances and that's amazing and wonderful! The church doesn't condone sin, but we help each other overcome our sins and weaknesses. These are only a small few of the reasons why I am a Mormon and there are so many more I can list! Just overall, it's a church of redeeming love and joy. There are so many beautiful promises and blessings that await all of us if we are faithful and keep the commandments.

How I live my faith

I attend church regularly and just love it! I read out of the Book of Mormon and pray everyday! I don't have a calling in my ward right now, but I have been on youth councils in church and in our seminary program! Living in this church requires a lot of individual effort as well as collected group effort. Everyday, everyone needs to be building up their own testimony and studying the gospel. Also, we meet together often so that we can share the knowledge we have and learn more about our Savior, Jesus Christ. We learn from each other and we teach each other. Right now, I am mostly learning because I don't have a calling, but I am preparing to teach the people in Brazil about the gospel and the truthfulness of it!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Rachel Knighton
Not all Mormons are required to serve a mission, but it is strongly recommended. To me, it is an outward expression of our faithfulness and gratitude to our Heavenly Father for all the blessings he has given me. The gospel of Jesus Christ means so much to me, I want to be able to share that with people so they can have that happiness and joy too. God has blessed me so much, not necessarily with material things, but emotionally and spiritually as well. It is a way to give back to him, serving a mission. Giving up 18-24 months of my life to bless another's life, is a small sacrifice compared to what the Savior gave every human being. Show more Show less
