Hi I'm Matthew

I grew up in Utah. I love running and designing things. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to run. I love the feeling of going prepared to a race, and exerting everything I can over the course of the race. That feeling, when you are in a race, and just giving it everything you have, and you just feel like you’re flying, is just incredible. Another passion is designing things, solving problems. I love thinking up a crazy idea for a project, studying what principles apply, and designing something. It’s just a cool thought to look at a well-made design, understand it fully, and see the beauty in it. Because of that interest, I plan on majoring in engineering when I return from a two-year mission in Colombia.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it is true! I was raised as a Mormon, but there comes a time in each person’s life when he or she needs to know the truth. Even though I had been taught by good parents and teachers for as long as I can remember, I still decided to ask God one night in prayer if it was true or not. The answer I got was surprising. It felt like the answer was, “You already know, and a more sure witness will come brick by brick.” Since then, when I realized I already did know, I have come to be more and more sure. That surety comes every time I feel the peace or the good feeling when I go to the temple or read the words of the prophets.

How I live my faith

My faith is the center of who I am. The hope that it provides makes me happy, and I want to share that with everybody! I have served in a few youth positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and will serve as a missionary in Colombia. In each of these positions, the ultimate goal is to invite everybody to come to Jesus Christ, and feel the peace and happiness He can give. In the Book of Mormon, there is a scripture that says, “Men are that they might have joy.” That pretty much sums up how I live my faith: I want to share joy with everyone, knowing that Christ is the ultimate source of Joy.

What are Mormon temples used for?

Matthew
Many people have died without having a chance to hear the gospel in mortality. The temple provides a place for those who didn't hear about the gospel while on the Earth to receive the ordinances, like baptism, they need. Also, as good as families are while we are here on Earth, Heavenly Father has always wanted our families to be together forever. The ordinances in the temple all lead up to the sealing ordinance, where families are sealed together forever. Show more Show less
