Hi I'm Alex Shillingford

Born in Provo Utah. I love music and working with computers. I'm serving a mission in the New York Utica Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've grown up with an interest in music and computer science. Love almost any genre of music and music history. My dad has worked around software a lot and I think a little bit of that interest may have rubbed off on me. I love reading; whether it's science fiction, self-improvement, biographical, or simply reading the news articles.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up I had a lot of great youth leaders I was surrounded by in the church. Their testimonies helped me grow and develop mine. My mom and step dad always made sure we were at church every Sunday, and that the gospel principles were taught and lived in our home. My dad was very liberal in whatever religion I chose to be apart of, just as long as I had searched for myself which one I felt I belonged to. I think all of these, from helping me build a firm foundation to allowing me to explore other religious beliefs and values, helped me form my testimony into what it is today. I really believe that this is the true church. I know it. I know that our Savior not only Lives today, but that He is at the head of His church today; that He is in all of our lives a lot more than any of us would ever think to guess. And I couldn't be more grateful to me apart of it.

How I live my faith

Currently I serve as a missionary for the people in the Utica, New York mission. My religious belief came when I came across the scripture James 1:27 "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." By actually applying the things that the church teaches and trying them out in my life, I've gained a testimony of how much happiness these principles bring into our lives, and how much influence and aid the Savior has in our life. Without Him and His Grace, there's a lot of things I wouldn't have been able to do, for example serving a mission has been one of the hardest things I've done in my life this far. But because of the comfort and strength He has given me, I've not only been able to stay, but I've been strengthened enough to invite those in New York to come unto Christ, whether that be through service or sharing the Gospel. I love this wonderful plan that God has made for us to prepare to meet Him again!
