Hi I'm Emily

I'm from California. I am a figure skating coach. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm just a girl who loves to exercise, play sports, and be outside. You name it, from tennis, to bowling, to hiking, to soccer, and, of course, figure skating. I am an English major in college, a cat owner, and a Disneyland lover. I am married. My husband and I are gamers (anything from board games to video games). Oh and I'm a big hockey fan (go Sharks!) I also support disabled individuals and I specialized in teaching Autistic children.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Protestant Christian. I attended Baptist and Presbyterian churches where I became involved in youth leadership, and vacation Bible schools. Although I enjoyed attending church and knew that God existed I always felt that something was missing. I had many questions. After meeting a member of the Church I realized that this is where my questions might finally be answered. At 23 years old, I studied very hard and came to know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church of Christ here on this earth today. Each and everyday I am thankful for my conversion and the decision to ask the missionaries.

How I live my faith

I study the scriptures, and because I am a member of His Church, I aim to live like Jesus Christ everyday, loving my family and neighbors. I am also blessed to have had the opportunity to teach very young children every week in a Sunday school class with my husband. We loved bringing the gospel to the future generation!

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Yes, there is a prophet alive today much like the prophet Moses. That is one of many ways we can see God's love for us. He provides us with a prophet who gives the entirety of God's church guidance. Each individual receives guidance from God through prayer, scripture, and many other means including the prophet. God appoints a living prophet to lead the church just like he always has with Noah, Abraham and Moses, for example. God continues to speak to his children. Having a living prophet is a pattern God has kept throughout ancient times and today in modern times so that we may have more opportunities for knowledge, happiness, and support in our lives. What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Just as each member of the church receives personal revelations about their life and decisions from God through the Holy Ghost, Joseph Smith received revelations for the whole church. As the prophet God appointed to lead His people on earth, Joseph Smith would gain understanding about what God wanted for His children. That also includes what God wants us to avoid in order to keep our minds and bodies healthy and able. The Word of Wisdom is one of many revelations from God that He has given to us to enhance our lives and make our experience on this earth happier and more fulfilling. The Word of Wisdom helps keep us healthy by counseling us to entirely avoid any usage of coffee and tea, tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs. We are blessed with health and physical strength as we heed this counsel. God also blesses us spiritually as we follow the Word of Wisdom. Show more Show less

How does the Church finance its operations?

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we believe in the law of tithing. We pay a small percentage of our income to Christ's church for support and, in turn, the church supports us. Our tithing pays the building of our worship centers: daily church buildings, Temples, and visitor centers. It also helps fund missions and activities throughout the church. The law of tithing is something members are very happy to follow as we know it blesses us both obviously and immediately in the above mentioned, as well as in the spiritual blessings we receive from Heavenly Father when we abide by His commandments. What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

As we are all sinners and imperfect beings, the Atonement was crucial and necessary for us to have a chance to return to live with Heavenly Father again. Jesus Christ bore our sins as He died on the cross in the Garden of Gethsemane. He felt the repercussions of mankind's every sin and suffered for us, to atone for our mistakes. It was important that we have the freedom to choose when God put us on this earth. But with that freedom we fall short of God's glory because we don't always make the right choice. Jesus Christ's sacrifice makes it possible for us to move past our sins as we have faith in Him, repent and strive to become like our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No, we absolutely do not worship anyone besides our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Although we do highly revere Joseph Smith and all prophets of God. These are humans that God has appointed to lead us through the murky waters we call earth. The prophets, from Moses and Abraham, to Joseph Smith and current day Thomas S. Monson, guide the Church of Jesus Christ and together, with the prophet, we worship God. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

The Bible is absolutely the word of God. It is Holy Scripture that we study on a daily basis and learn about our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Prophets of God, holy men, formulated the Bible along with other important scriptures like the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Coming to know our Heavenly Father is so simple and wonderful. Through prayer we can communicate with Him and become connected with the presence of the Holy Spirit as we keep His commandments. By reading scriptures we can learn more about Him. As we perform acts of service for His other Children we also become more like our Heavenly Father and feel more connected with Him.
