Hi I'm Shawn Kelley

I grew up in Maryland. I love my family. I am a missionary sharing the gospel I love!

About Me

I grew up in Maryland, but I am currently serving my full time mission in the Utah Salt Lake City West Mission and I am loving every moment of it. I grew up in the faith and I am thankful to my parents for raising me. I love sports, mainly basketball and baseball. I love to sing, and I enjoyed theater while I was in high school. My family while I grew up also traveled a lot. We were able to visit all of the lower 48 states and many of the southern provinces of Canada. It is great to have visited so many places, and I look forward to visiting more.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member, so my conversion has been a lifelong gradual realization of the truth of the Gospel. I have had several experiences of a personal nature that have confirmed what I have always been taught. For each aspect of my testimony, first came my belief and faith because of how I was raised, then came the feeling that it was true, then followed the knowledge and logical reasoning. I can use this logic and knowledge to convince you, but then you won't have true faith, because you will taking it from the word of a man rather than the feeling that confirms the truthfulness of what I am about to say. I have felt God's love both through his blessings and the love of others, as well as directly. When I felt it directly from him, I could not deny it was his love, because it was something so real and powerful that it caused me to tremble and shake. Now this God that loves us so much, because he is our literal Father in Heaven, sent his son to suffer, bleed, and die for our sins and our pains, so that Jesus could help us return to Him, because he wants us to come home, and no unclean thing can enter into the sight of God. By our very nature we sin, and because we sin we are clean. Jesus suffered for all our sins and pains because he loves us, and if we follow him, we can be washed clean. Jesus Christ overcame mortal death and was resurrected so that we too could obtain immortality and live with our families forever. This same resurrected Jesus Christ visited his "other sheep" in the Americas. The events before, during, and after this visitation are recorded in the Book Of Mormon, which book teaches of many truths and principles we should live by, and the authors of this book were divinely inspired in writing to the people of our day. If any fault is found in the book, it is the fault of man. The Book Of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, and was brought forth by the Prophet Joseph Smith who translated it. Joseph indeed saw God and Jesus in answer prayer.

How I live my faith

Currently I try to serve everyone around me, but my main purpose as a missionary is to invite others to come unto Christ. We do this by sharing and preaching the gospel everywhere we go, both through words and actions. It is an amazing feeling to bear testimony of the savior and the restoration of his gospel on the earth. I truly love those I serve and hope for the best, and I am willing to give anything to help them to have the same joy that I have.

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

Shawn Kelley
The reason why authority is important is because we are representing the Lord when we perform a baptism or participate in any other such ordinance or blessing. It is his power, and we are completely reliant on the Savior Jesus Christ for the power to do such things. We are not perfect and therefore not worthy, however because we are acting in the name of Jesus Christ and by his priesthood we are a stand in doing as he would do, in place of Him, so we are worthy to act because we act as a delegate of Him. We don't trust just anyone with the key to our house, and the Lord is the same. He does not give just anyone the key to his Kingdom, but those who have repented and been mad clean through his atoning sacrifice. We are completely reliant on Him and His power to unlock the gate of heaven, which Baptism is how we enter the gate. Show more Show less
