Hi I'm Anna Barona

I love languages. I write music and lyrics. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As mentioned in my heading, I love to learn languages. I grew up speaking English, but I had relatives that spoke fluent Spanish. Naturally, I learned their language by careful listening and lots of trial and error. Before my senior year of college, I picked up a few Japanese and Italian books from the library. I never even looked at the Italian, but learned some conversational Japanese in a few weeks. Much to my surprise, when I received my call to serve an LDS mission, it was not to Japan or Argentina, as I had predicted; it was to Rome, Italy, and I began learning the Italian language. I have also studied music and all the beauty that it encompasses. I love writing music that can make others feel what I feel and convey a message without any tangibility. I started writing lyrics when I was 11 years old, the result of a guitar that my parents bought for me, after seeing me endlessly strumming on my Dad's. On a side note, I love to cook everything. My favorite shows are Everyday Italian with Giada and Breakfast at Bobby's with Bobby Flay. Putting food together in a pan, bowl, or dish and getting a delicious result is the best part. Half the time, I don't start out with a recipe in mind, but I end up getting out a recipe book and try to make it look just like the picture. :)

Why I am a Mormon

There was a point in my life where I seriously contemplated the questions: "Why am I going to this church? What is it that I believe?" and from many nights of prayer, pondering, and patience, waiting on an answer from God, I have this: I know that this church is true and that it is under the direction of true prophets who receive direction from God and Jesus Christ. I know that the Book of Mormon is true because it testifies of Christ, it invites all men to believe in Christ, and in conjunction with the Bible, it has provided every answer to every question I have ever had. No other books have ever made me feel the Spirit of God more powerfully than these. I know that Joseph Smith restored this true church because I asked and God answered me. I know that God's timing is so different than mine and with patience, I can know all things through Him.

How I live my faith

I have had many callings in church and have found a common thread between them all: they have prepared me for my career as a teacher. I have been a leader in many of my callings and that has helped me increase my communication skills and learn to work with other people. I love working with children most of all. Their sweet insights on the Spirit of God or the nature of Jesus Christ is so simple and powerful. They have an even firmer testimony of the truth than I can teach them, but they teach me so much every day. Although I've spent much of my life learning other languages, the language of the Spirit of God is one that I've had to work at my hardest. I try to tune my mind to listen to that still, small, voice enough to hear what God intends for me and what work He would have me do. I am very active in the LDS church and I have chosen to show my devotion to God by serving a mission for him in Rome, Italy. I want to invite others to come unto Christ so that they can feel the happiness and joy that comes from a life knowing that God has a plan for all of us and that nothing is lost through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and it permits every man to receive revelation for himself if he reads it and asks God if it is true. Show more Show less
