Hi I'm Alex Guzzwell

I am a student at Brigham Young University and a soldier in the U.S. Army National Guard. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a student at Brigham Young University, finishing a degree in International Relations. I am also a Combat Engineer in the Army National Guard. I spent much of my childhood in various places around the country but for me Alaska is home. I love the outdoors, and try to spend as much time as possible hiking and backpacking, when I don't have my nose buried in a good book.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church, and I continue to be a member because I know of the happiness that the Gospel of Christ brings to the lives of those who follow His teachings. I know that God loves each and every one of us, and that as our Heavenly Father He knows of the trials and challenges we face. I know that if we ask for His help in our times of need that He will comfort and uplift us, through the Holy Ghost and through the actions of His children. I know that this Church is blessed and guided by His hand, and that we are lead by a living prophet of the Lord. Despite the personal struggles that I have had in my life I will not ever leave the Church, for I know that it is truly the Lord's church here on this earth and that by being a member I will be far happier than if I choose any other path.

How I live my faith

For me living my faith involves always striving to do the right things, whether they be large or small, and helping other to do the same. I love working with the youth, and have acted as adult leader for many of their various trips and activities. I hope that I can act as a positive influence, and that sharing my personal experiences with them can help them as they grow older and make choices that will affect their futures. Knowing that I can have a large impact on the lives of the people around me is a huge motivator in why I try to live my life in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ. I try to be as open as possible about the Church with anyone interested that I encounter, and I am always eager to discuss the principals of our faith.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Alex Guzzwell
We believe that it is our responsibility to God to go out and preach His gospel, and as such there is a culture of missionary service in the Church. We believe that all members should be active in seeking out opportunities to talk about the Church with the people around them, and we desire the share the joy of the Gospel with others. That being said, members are not required to serve a formal two year mission, although it is encouraged for young men and women who are around the age of 19. Serving a mission is completely voluntary, and members who do not serve missions are not shunned or held in ill regard. Members who have served missions often describe them as the best two years of their lives, and they hold dear the time they gave to serve the Lord and spread His word. Show more Show less
