Hi I'm TJ Ethington

I've grown up in Chandler, Arizona and spent time in Dalian, China. I'm a Mandarin-speaking missionary in Edmonton Canada.

About Me

I'm a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in Edmonton, Canada. While its a big change from both the life and the weather I left in Arizona, I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve and for all the blessings that have come my way while I've been here. Already, its an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life. I've recently graduated high school. After finishing my mission I am planning on attending ASU to study Computer Engineering. I lived in Dalian, China for two years, where I learned some Chinese language and culture. Maybe because of my time in China, I have been called to serve in the Mandarin Language, and to find, teach, and love the people of Edmonton and especially those Chinese brothers and sisters I have here. I am so excited to have this chance to try to find and help them in any way I can. I played sports in school, basketball and tennis, but my true passion was for pursuits of science and math. I helped to start my school's robotics team, the ACP Knights, and have seen some amazing things come of it. Being at a small school has helped me share the gospel. I felt so close to my class that I was never afraid to share my beliefs or invite classmates to an activity.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because this gospel is true. I probably spent a long time very content with where I was at, but now that I look back, it feels like I was on something of a lifeboat in the ocean. And I didn't have a paddle. While the weather was fair, it was a pretty great trip. No worries, no effort, just rocking back and forth comfortably. But I have had a chance to see and experience weather and conditions that weren't quite so good. I found a paddle. And I am trying to follow the Savior. I have seen all of those blessings that have entered my life, and the lives of those around me as we follow his gospel and improve our lives.

How I live my faith

Right now I am living my faith through my service as a missionary. Literally, every second of my day is dedicated to serving my Heavenly Father by serving those around me. But I think a great part of living the faith is how we all treat each other. Through an understanding of our family relationship with Heavenly Father and all of his children, all our brothers and sisters, everyone here on the Earth, I think it is natural for us to just be better to each other, to be nice, kind, and to help each other. I believe that is the best way to demonstrate my faith. Because people may not always respond to invitations or to our efforts to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but they will become our friends if we live by the example our Savior set for us.
