Hi I'm Cassandra

Most days I'm a runner, artist, chef, and pianist. Every day I'm a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to do so many different things. Some might even call me a "Jack of all trades, master of none," but I don't think that is a bad thing. I feel that I have more adventures as a result! My favorite and most important part of my life is my family. I just recently started to be a stay-at-home mom with my one-year-old son. He is a bundle of joy and energy and always keeps me moving. Before he became my occupation, I was an elementary school art teacher. I love art and teaching children. Teaching was so wonderful because I got to share what I am passionate about and make a difference in the lives of so many incredible kids. I especially love running and got to train for and run my first marathon recently! Aside from giving birth, which was the most emotional, mental and physically challenging thing I have ever accomplished, it was one of the most difficult physical experiences of my life. But it was also exhilarating, inspiring, and definitely worth it. I enjoy running for fun now, which I know a lot of people think fun and run should not be in the same sentence, but they are for me! My son loves to come with me on trails and sometimes my husband is able to join us, too. My favorite times are when all three of us get to go on adventures together. From long road trips to visit family or exciting places, to small outings like a run or trip to the grocery store, I love being with my little family.

Why I am a Mormon

I love that because I am a Mormon, I know that I am a daughter of my Heavenly Father who loves me unconditionally. I love having the spirit in my life, which helps guide my words and actions, as well as comforts me in times of difficulty or even confusion. I especially love feeling the spirit when I am happy or in moments of inspiration. I love that I can read the scriptures and the words can apply directly to my life. I love that I can find solace in attending the temple, which is His house - the closest thing to heaven on earth. I love that I can listen to and read the words of the Prophet, Thomas S. Monson and the Twelve Apostles, as well as hear the words of leaders and teachers in my own area, and these can give guidance and direction for me and my family. I love that I am a Mormon because I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. He atoned for my sins, and felt my pain and sadnesses. He knows me more than I know myself and loves me for who I am, despite my weaknesses, because He knows what I am capable of and what I can become.

How I live my faith

We just recently moved, and have been overwhelmed with the warm welcome we have received here. The church members in our ward have been so helpful and welcoming and I sincerely hope that I can do the same for others. So far my husband and I have tried to reach out to our neighbors and get to know them better. We also have helped a family move, and have started to participate in our ward here. Previously, I was able to participate on a preparedness committee and specifically focus on creating 72 hour kits for families in our ward. I organized an event where women ordered food items that I collected and brought to a night where we assembled kits in case of an emergency. I really enjoyed learning about various aspects of emergency preparedness while I participated on that committee, and I am still implementing things that I learned as a result! My favorite thing that I did in my previous ward was playing the piano. I love playing the piano and this gave me the opportunity to accompany hymns each week for all the women in the ward. I also was assigned to visit with and befriend three other girls that lived close to me. We would meet once a month to discuss what was going on in our lives, and help each other out. It brought me joy to be able to focus on serving specific girls and meeting their needs in various ways. Most of all, I try to be a good example to those around me. I want to share my joy with those around me, so even smiling at others at the grocery store, or being a courteous driver can make a difference in others lives. It definitely makes a difference in my day when someone I know or even a stranger shares a kind word or smile with me!
