Hi I'm Camilla

I'm a University graduate, I love books. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I graduated University in 2014 and now have a degree in English Language and Literary studies. I continue to love reading a wide range of genres in my spare time. I also really love watching films, comedy and Disney films especially.I have seven nephews all under the age of 6 whom I see every week and play with, the youngest of which is 4 months old. I often visit places with historical significance, usually belonging to with the National Trust or English Heritage, as they all have multiple stories attached to them which I find fascinating. Going on Hikes around the peak district and small villages with my father is a favourite past time, the landscape from the top of these hills are often the most extraordinary, even when it is cloudy or misty (which it often is in England).

Why I am a Mormon

My great grandmother joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1914, my grandmother, my father and myself are all therefore born into the Church. My mother however was a convert to the Church, she was searching at the age of 15 and found what she was seeking, the true Church on this earth today. These are all very good reasons for me to be a member now, however this is not the case. Everybody, including myself, goes through a conversion process where we are unable to rely on the Testimony of others, in my case my parents. This started for me when I was about 16. Seminary is a programme which teaches about the gospel using the scriptures, including the Bible and The Book of Mormon. For myself it was an hour long class held at 6am on weekdays, from September to March. This programme helped me a lot in this difficult time as there were no other young women my age. I decided to read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover. As I read my Testimony began to grow and by the end of it through praying to Lord and receiving answers to my questions I had my own Testimony. I know the Book of Mormon in the word of the Lord. One of the many things I love about the gospel is that if one part of it true the rest of it must be also. If the Book of Mormon is true, Joseph Smith was able to translate it through the power of God and therefore is a seer and prophet. If he was a prophet the Lord would not allow him to say anything that was untrue of the gospel, and the rest follows. Everything, to myself fits and make sense. there is no part that does not have a reasonable explanation which is amazing. I love the gospel and am so happy and blessed at having been converted to the Lord.

How I live my faith

About 6 months ago I decided to go on a mission, I received that call on the 29th December 2014 to the Sydney North Mission, Australia. It is an exciting time as I will be arriving at the MTC in New Zealand on the 26th March 2015. In preparing for a mission I now understand how important it is to do all the little things, reading the scriptures especially. I am going to miss my Beehives as I am currently the 2nd counsellor in the Young Women's programme, however teaching them every Sunday has helped me to practice how to teach and learn more about the gospel. The activities on Tuesday evening have also taught me to prepare and time manage so that the Young Women can learn more about the gospel through a fun activity, that they may learn and enjoy making new friendships as well as bringing their friends to church to share the gospel.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Camilla
To put simply no, Mormon's are not required to serve a mission. There is however a strong tradition of missionary service in the Church which is taught in Mathew 28:19. It is the personal decision whether or not they feel they should serve a mission. For myself personally I felt that I was called of the lord at this point in my life that a should serve a mission, which is why I will soon be on the other side of the world in Australia preaching the gospel. I would not go if I did not know this is the one true church on the earth. I believe it would be selfish of me not to share the gospel with others as I have been given so much, and had so many blessing. I want others to feel this happiness that comes from the gospel in their lives. Show more Show less
