Hi I'm Anthony Lukas

I'm a Creative Writing student, a proud stepdad and husband, and cartoon aficionado. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi! I'm a stepfather, a college student, a huge nerd, and a recent convert. Next to Heavenly Father, my wife and stepson are the center of my universe. my stepson said to me recently, "Anthony, I think that you were made to be a stepfather. When God gave you a body, he said 'this one will have a stepson!'" There is no way I could ever disagree with that! I am studying for my BFA in Creative Writing for Entertainment. Someday I hope to be successful as a world builder for tabletop games, or a writer for children's educational media. (Tracy Hickman is my hero. He's on this site - look up his profile!) It is my sincere hope that I can bring good things into the world that are a positive influence on those who enjoy them. Jesus taught in parables because stories are timeless and influential. If I can even do a tiny fraction of the same good through my work, then I will know I'm on the right path.

Why I am a Mormon

I've tried out many faiths trying to find one that was "good enough", because I already had figured out at age 12 that nobody seemed to have the complete truth. It took me until I was 32 to figure out that I didn't have to settle for "good enough." The church has everything I had been looking for: personal and continued revelation, an expectation of a palpable response to prayer, the honoring of ancestors, an explanation of he actual purpose of the fall of man, not to mention a focus on service for the sake of fellowship, and not for personal gain or notoriety! Most notably for me, I came to the church feeling certain of a possibility that I would be turned away at any point ... and I wasn't. Details aren't important because the foundation for that fear is behind me now, but I can say with confidence that I believe that if I can be not only welcomed warmly and enthusiastically but also put to a fulfilling task immediately ... this is it, guys. This is the true church.

How I live my faith

Though my wife and I are very recent converts, we were called right away to serve as branch missionaries. It's a perfect fit, as I try to find teaching opportunities in everything I do - even my homework! I believe in teaching by example, since I know it often works better for people to be shown things instead of to be told. So I cram in as many service projects as I can, and do the best to set a good example for everyone I encounter!

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Anthony Lukas
The short answer to this question is simply "because Heavenly Father commanded it for a time." While that makes sense and is acceptable, it's of course a little hard to wrap your brain around! If you're wondering WHY He would have commanded this for a short time, it's assumed that, because of the many saints who were killed during the pioneer times, Heavenly Father had to make a push to build the house of Israel. When this practice was no longer necessary to ensure the survival of the saints in the Americas, Heavenly Father said so. Show more Show less
