Hi I'm Mia Elda Birkeland

I am thrifty. I am called to serve in the Czech/Slovak mission. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

About Me

I am a student at Brigham Young University Idaho, but I'm leaving to serve in the Czech/Slovak mission on August 13, 2014! This was not a life-long decision, which makes it more important to me. I have worked very hard to earn most of the money for this mission by riding my bike 14 miles to work almost everyday, except Sunday of course. I am a stepdaughter and I have two half siblings. My mother was first married to Michael Birkeland who is known for being in LDS movies like, "Home Teachers" and "Singles Ward". Her being divorced did not make or break my life; it was a blimp in a chapter of the book Heavenly Father has written for me. Many young children around the world suffer from divorce or not having any parents. I am blessed to even have two step parents. So many people think I have a crazy life for having a famous dad but I know that I have an amazing life because I have a Heavenly Father. This has taught me life lessons about what I want in a spouse and how obedient I must be to be just as worthy for my future husband. For anyone who has divorced parents or is going through that kind of situation, remember your Heavenly parents are sealed for eternity. This often helped me get through some of my hardest struggles and it reminded me that as children of our earthly parents, we can learn from their decisions to strive for a temple marriage. I love my family more than I can explain and I know I'm eternally blessed to have this "crazy life" as people claim I have!

Why I am a Mormon

Besides my family, my testimony is the one thing I would take out of my house if it was on fire. It is the one item I would keep on a boat if we were sinking. It is the treasure that I keep sacred and close to my heart always and I never let others abuse it. The gospel of Jesus Christ has taught me more than how to become a more Christ-like woman, it has taught me how to remember that I am already a Christ-like woman by using the Atonement everyday and praying to our Heavenly Father to help me through this life! I cherish every aspect of the gospel because I would not be here today if they weren't here on Earth to learn about and use.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday and as much as the company I worked at wanted me to work on Sundays, I didn't let their desires get to my head. My desire to attend church is more important! When I came home from my first semester of college, I was called as the Miamaid Advisor (a leader to the young women ages14-15) in my home ward!! I kept thinking, "I just left the Young Women's program, and now I'm back!" It not only taught me how to become more loving to the youth of the church, but it prepared me in numerous ways to serve a mission. The youth have incredible testimonies.
