Hi I'm Rachel

I grew up in New York City. I'm studying to be an artist and want to work in the Peace Corp. some day. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm an 80's enthusiast. I love the music, the fashion, the movies, the people of that time. I love traveling, experiencing new places, and meeting new people. I want to be a mother some day. I'm currently a student at Brigham Young University studying Art Education. During my freshman year of high school I lived with my dad in Orvieto, Italy. My mother's side of my family is from Ecuador. I feel somewhat disconnected from my heritage having grown up in the United States but I hope to keep some connection with it by practicing my Spanish and learning from my grandparents.

Why I am a Mormon

This gospel has brought me so much joy. I've tried imagining my life without the gospel and it is void of all the hope, service, and love that I now experience. There have been times when I've wanted to give up because living the gospel is not an easy task. Still, I have come to know it's worth it. I have felt the burning in my heart and a sure conviction in my mind that the gospel is true. The world has provided sufficient distractions that would keep us away from this truth if we let them. Everyday is another day to fight off this influence and let our Heavenly Father into our hearts. His way is the only way in which I have true, whole, lasting happiness and it is for this reason I am a mormon.

How I live my faith

I love going to the temple. I recently made it a goal to go every week and it has since become an extension of my home. I feel so comfortable there and going frequently has made me aware of the need to be continually worthy of entering His house. The scriptures are my treasures. They have so many gems of knowledge and testimony that I can keep in my heart. They shine bright during difficult times in my life and remind me of my Heavenly Father's love for me. Reading other books from the prophets, like The Miracle of Forgiveness, have really helped my tie in all the scriptures and read them with a specific focus. I've specifically tried to focus learning the nature of God and of Jesus Christ. This has not only helped my relationship with God grow (you have to know who you worship) but also given me the direction I need to go to become more like Christ.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

To answer this question I like to go to Alma 7:11-13. It reads: 11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. 12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities. 13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me. It includes so much suffering both that others inflict on us, that we inflict on ourselves, and that just comes with the natural course of life. He did all that with a willing heart. He did so so that we could know who to turn to and to have someone to understand us perfectly in the very depths of our trials. He knows what we need to overcome these trials because He has overcome them all. It is the promise that He will never forsake us. Show more Show less
