Hi I'm Sister Shelby Holmes

I grew up in a few states: Arizona, Wisconsin, Connecticut, and now Illinois. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to serve people. I just love to talk to people in general. I have been to serve my mission in St. George, Utah. I did 2 weeks of training in the MTC and have been out in the field for 2 weeks today. My month mark is on January 3rd, 2015! I love the Gospel and I'm beyond eternally grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost and my Father in Heaven for blessing me with all the things I need! I love being in the field.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and growing up, I really took everything I learned for granted. I didn't realize how much God really loves me until I started serving him. I always loved going to girls camp and youth conference every year, and all those fun activities during the year. I felt the Spirit so strong every time I was united with the youth of my stake. When I would go to Priest Laurel Conference and everyone would sing in the beginning meeting, the spirit overwhelmed me so strong. I love the church! I love my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that God has a plan for me and that every time I choose to follow in His footsteps, God is looking down on me with a smile on His face.

How I live my faith

One thing I like to do but haven't done much is hand out Mormon.org cards. When I served a mini mission for a week, the Sisters I was working with helped me to be comfortable with giving them out. It is so fun when people ask me where I'm going to college and in return, their faces and emotions change when I tell them I'm not yet because I was called to St. George, Utah to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love sharing my testimony during fast Sunday. I get up almost every fast Sunday to bear my testimony. I am preparing to go to the temple to take out my own endowments by taking Temple Preparation courses. I love the temple and feel so peaceful when I come out every time.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Sister Shelby Holmes
The Atonement is the most important thing we have on this earth life besides our relationship with God and Jesus Christ. The Atonement is where Christ died on the cross for us. He sacrificed his life for us to have eternal life. The Atonement helps us come closer to Christ because He gave his life for each one of us. He knows what we go through. We would not have a way back to our Father in Heaven unless Christ would have sacrificed His life. Through that knowledge that Christ died for us, we can become humbled and more righteous. We will be more cautious of the choices we make. And we can find this sure knowledge through sincere prayer to our Heavenly Father if the Atonement is important in us returning to Him. I know that God lives and loves us and through the gospel/atonement, we can repent and become more like him and can have eternal life. Show more Show less
