Hi I'm Derrick

I live in Slovakia as a missionary, born and raised in Utah, I have a big family, I play football, I Swim, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love football and Swimming. I played football for three years, two of the three I broke my collar bone and the third year I suffered concussions. After playing football I decided to take up competitive swimming, it seemed a little safer... I love the feeling I have as I glide through the water and just take it all in. I love the time I get to think while I swim and ponder on the thoughts of my mind, think about life, all the fun stuff, all the other stuff, and sometimes, I like to just think about nothing and focus on the mechanics of swimming and take it in and stuff. I suggest that if you are reading this, that you try, It's great! I have been in Slovakia for almost two years, I got here in the Fall of 2014 and I have loved every millisecond of it. I really Love this Country and I cant see myself leaving it. this country, the people here and the message I share has changed my life. I wouldn't be the same with out all that I have experienced. Slovakia is My home, and I feel like I have family here. I am also an Uncle to a baby girl who is going to be born shortly after my return home.

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to be a member of this church because I know that it is the True Church of Christ, I feel the influence of the spirit whenever I apply the gospel in my life. I was born in the church, but I came to the knowledge that the Church is true by studying the teachings of the Church, and then I prayed, I believe, like a wise man once said "an experience is never at the mercy of an opinion" so I set out and decided to have an experience. I did and now I have no doubt of the truthfulness of the message of our Church.

How I live my faith

I participate in my church callings and go to many meetings each week. I served as a ward missionary where I helped others learn about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I have chosen to serve God by Helping others receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and his atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the holy ghost and enduring to the end.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

We believe that grace is the enabling power of the atonement of Jesus Christ and Through faith in Christ we can be cleaned from our sins by grace. But, What is Faith? well, we learn in James 2:17 "Even so faith , if it hath not works , is dead, being alone." so we can believe in Jesus Christ, but If we don't act and work hard to be as Christ-like as we can, we wont be exercising our faith, therefore, we will not enable ourselves to be cleansed through grace. What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Missionaries in our church are volunteers, we come from places far and near, to find people who have ever had questions, doubts, or ponderings about God. We as missionaries have 5 short lessons that we teach in order to help people not only learn about our church, but to learn and grow spiritually. Our purpose Is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. The missionaries have done so much good for me and I hope they can do good for you. Show more Show less
