Hi I'm Ben Shaw

I'm a fly fisherman, backpacker, a hockey player, a Yooper, currently a missionary in Canada Montreal, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a little town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan called Houghton, and the population is just about 8000 people so I`m a small town country boy you could say. Growing up my family lived about 2 years in Leipzig, Germany so my Dad could work at an Atmospheric Research Facility there (he is a physics professor and does a lot of atmospheric research around the world). I was able to learn how to speak German while we were there which was awesome. After High School I went out to BYU-I for a year and while I was there I received my mission call to the Canada Montreal Mission French Speaking. Shortly after I went to live in Alaska for almost 3 months to work as a carpenter to save money for my mission. I left for my mission summer 2014 and am currently out serving. My younger brother is leaving for his mission this summer and he will be serving in the Alpine German Speaking mission. I love hands on things such as building homes and decks or anything else out of wood and so I loved doing carpentry work, I hope to build my own home some day. I also love staying in shape doing things like crossfit or lifting weights and sports. I love languages as well as learning new ones. Hockey is the best sport in the world and soccer is close behind. I love spending time with my family and especially my younger siblings. I love the outdoors. I love fly fishing, backpacking, road/mountain biking, working on bikes, and camping with my buddies.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have seen many times what it is like to be in this world without The Gospel of Jesus Christ, and it is something that I don`t want for anyone in to have to go through. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has blessed me in countless ways and my family as well. As a missionary I have seen it change people lives drastically for the better without them even realizing it, it has been truly an incredible experience.

How I live my faith

I am currently a missionary in the Canada Montreal Mission speaking French. I love being a missionary and my favorite part of that is being able to talk to and meet so many different people everyday and offer them something that has brought a lot of happiness to my life. One thing that I hold the closest to my heart is family, I love my family and loves spending time with them and serving them as well.
