Hi I'm Barbara

I am a Speech and Drama Teacher, a retired adult education teacher, a Disability Support Worker and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mum with two adult children. My hobbies include travel to exciting places, usually with the goal of discovering more of my family history. I did some volunteer work in Vietnam at a school for children with disabilities. I am involved in a project to provide clean water wells and water purifying equipment to remote villages in Cambodia and enjoy teaching English as a Second Language to refugees who have come to live in Australia. When I was 50 I went to University and got another degree. I love learning new things.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a baby I was dedicated in the Baptist Church. When I was about 10 I started going to a Methodist Church. As I loved the scriptures even as a child I soon came to realise that it was important for a person to be baptised, but that had never happened to me. My minister said it wasn't necessary. When the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ started teaching me about their church and explained that baptism was essential for salvation I was ready and at last able to participate in that ordinance. I read the Book of Mormon and after I prayed to know if it was truly the word of God just like the Bible, Heavenly Father answered my prayer, the Holy Spirit bore witness of its truth and I was given a strong testimony of the truth of this great book. I really have come closer to God as I have read this book and studied and lived its doctrines. I know without a shadow of doubt that this is the same church that Jesus established when he was on earth and that it has been restored in our day through the Prophet Joseph Smith under the direction of Jesus Christ himself.

How I live my faith

I love the Church. It has been the most important part of my life for almost 40 years. I have had lots of opportunities to serve over that time. I have enjoyed teaching children, youth, and adults over the years. I've also been involved with Teaching English classes at church and in the community. I really enjoy reading and studying the scriptures and my favourite callings have been to teach the Gospel.
