Hi I'm Brett

I grew up in Oronogo, Missouri. I am a musician and composer. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

Although neither me, nor my family could afford music lessons when I was growing up, I do believe that I was still raised in favorable circumstances to learn. My house has a piano and so does the house across from me where my grandparents live and even if I can't practice there, the church building isn't far from where I live and there is definitely a piano there. I started teaching myself piano when I was 14 years old and around the same time joined the choir in junior high, which worked out perfectly because my choir teacher taught me how to read music so that made the learning process a little easier. In addition to learning to read music, I turned to a dusty old beginners piano guide and learned how to identify the keys on the piano and that's when it started to come together. I first began teaching myself hyms from the hym book, but eventually I decided to take it a step further and began to compose my own music. I was excited when I wrote my first song because I felt for the first time like I had created something worthwhile. Meanwhile I continued practicing and growing in music for the rest of my schooling career. While making music though I had also been preparing to serve a mission and have fairly recently received a call to serve in Bolivia, SA. I am truly excited about that and continue now to make my final preparations.

Why I am a Mormon

I have attended other churches on numerous occasions and same spirit that exists in this church, I cannot find anywhere else. I have never felt the love of my savior more any place else and it is for that reason that I know and feel like this is the place I should be. I do believe that this gospel is true from the bottom of my heart and I feel so blessed that it is a part of me. I am no perfect human being. I mess up a lot. And for that reason I am truly grateful for Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. Without him I would have no hope. Furthermore I believe that my Heavenly Father has made it possible for me to be united with my family forever and to me, that brings great joy because when you think about it, heaven would not be what it is made out to be and more if your family is not in that picture. I know that this gospel is true because I have prayed about it and have gained my own personal witness and I would gladly encourage everyone who is searching for a sense of purpose to gain that witness of your own. It isn't easy but in the end it is worth it. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

How I live my faith

I currently attend a Young Single Adult branch as a secretary to my presiding officer, and member of the music council. I take missionary prep courses and attend institute regularly. I love to participate in service projects, particularly outdoors. As an Eagle Scout that's part of I how I live the scout Oath. Helping other people at all times. I also really find family home evening really enjoyable to participate in as well.
