Hi I'm Dana

I'm a Cali girl at heart. Kindness advocate. I love writing. Music feeds my soul. I love my family, faith, & life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello, friend! My most important & blessed roles in my life are those of wife & mother. I wouldn't trade the slobbery kisses, sticky fingerprints, tantrums, & household chaos for anything. Because along with all of those things, comes copious amounts of love, snuggles, blessings, & a promise for the future. Do you remember the child you once were? That's the child I have tried to protect all of these years. That's the child that is loved unconditionally by Heavenly Father. I strive to treat myself, my children, & others as the child of God that they are. Besides, I am truly a big kid even at 39+! Along w/ motherhood, I love writing in many forms including songs, poetry, blogging, journaling, children's books, & nonsense. Most of them are hidden away in a plethora of dogeared notebooks & folders that I have accumulated since I learned how to write. Except for the one song I finally took to completion last year & heard it song by a group of beautiful young women at church. What a dreamy blessing that was! Writing is my free therapy. ;) Smiling is my favorite. I love photography, volleyball, sunshine, nature, road trips, real people, laughing, decorating, VW's, creating, singing, the beach, being silly, holding hands, the smell after rain, piano, graphic design, & playing games (esp Nertz & Speed Scrabble). Life is good, not because it hasn't been challenging, but because I have had my Savior along for the crazy ride. He has given me gratitude & hope through it all!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because my maternal great grandfather met some Mormon missionaries on a country road in Denmark & between point A & point B, decided the things the Elders spoke of were true. It was the moment they told him about the prophet Joseph Smith who had restored Christ's true church that his heart was touched by the spirit. I am a Mormon because my paternal great-great grandfather opened his heart & was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Scotland. He brought his faith, his family, and his love for the Lord to help settle the church with Brigham Young long ago. I am a Mormon because my own parents continued the legacy these great men started by loving the gospel, & raising me & my 4 siblings in its truth and light. I am a Mormon because I found out for myself, through study and prayer, that the Book of Mormon is the enlightening word of God that stands as another witness of Christ with the Bible. I am a Mormon because I know with every piece of me that God lives! My Redeemer lives! I know His atoning sacrifice made it possible for me to start over each week by remembering Him & who I want to be. I know my family can be together, not just until death we part, but for forever & ever! I follow the gospel of Jesus Christ because it gives me knowledge of my divine worth & potential. I am a Mormon because I believe we have a true & living Prophet of God on this earth today. President Thomas S. Monson is called of God to bring us guidance & instruction from our ever-loving Heavenly Father. The Lord would never leave us alone on earth to fend for ourselves. He gives us a way to hear Him more tangibly through the Prophet's voice. I am a Mormon because I have felt the Savior's love carrying me through all of the ups & downs of life. No matter the circumstance, He is near. A feeling that enables me to have hope, peace, & gratitude through it all. I know I am here to be tested so that I can become more holy through trials.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite quotes is, "Happiness is best kept when given away"! Christ knew this as a perfect being & is my example of love & charity! One of my favorite ways to live my faith, is through service. Service has kept me from sinking in troubled waters. I received guidance through a blessing to give service throughout my life that will bring happiness & be a way to cope with the many trials that come. When I focus on others, an amazing change occurs in my heart. My problems lessen & my heart swells. Serving is my hobby! Some of my favorite ways to be conscious of living like Christ are by SMILING, giving sincere compliments, jumping in wherever a helping hand is needed, feeding the less fortunate, volunteering in food and clothing drives, organizing service projects, youth groups, fundraisers, volunteering in the community, leaving "random acts of kindness" around town and on social media, using my words for good, & giving all that I can of the talents that have been given to me. For all that I have comes from God. All that is good & any good I can do, is because of Him. Anything I can do to uplift, inspire, or put a smile on someone's face, is the least I can do. My most favorite way to serve, is with the rising generation of this time! I am blessed to teach the most amazing Sunday School class of fourteen 14 year olds! Some might want to run the other way, but not me! I know with all of my heart that the youth of today are incredible! It is up to us to bring it out of them by loving them, helping them come unto Christ, & encouraging them to stand as witnesses of God at all times, & in all things, & in all places. They teach me daily. They are strong, resilient, faithful, valiant, and courageous. Not to mention so much fun! I love them dearly. They help me to keep my eye on the future and on the reason we are here on this earth. To love one another, teach one another, bear each others burdens, and become as Christlike as we can. Serving is free therapy.
