Hi I'm Elaine

I grew up in Colorado. I taught elementary school, am married, have 5 children, 6 grandchildren, love quilting and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of three children. I studied music and elementary education in college. After graduating, I served as a missionary in Guatemala and El Salvador. Before marrying my husband, I taught school in a bi-lingual Spanish program. I am the wife of a great man and a mother to 5 grown children and grandmother of 6 sweet grandchildren. I love quilting and researching stories and facts about my ancestors. Family gatherings and camping are favorite activities. I enjoy teaching my nieces how to quilt, sew or cook fun ethnic foods.

Why I am a Mormon

While in college, roommates challenged me to study and learn about religion. I attended a few Christian churches with friends. Although my parents were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we didn't attend often. I decided to read the Book of Mormon and pray and ask God if it was true. After doing so, I received a strong witness of it's truth. I came to know that Jesus Christ is my redeemer and that Joseph Smith was a prophet who translated the Book of Mormon through the power of God. This experience gave me the basis to learn and grow over the years. I love being an active Mormon! It has given me so many opportunities to develop talents by serving others in ways I never would have done on my own. I know that God loves me as I feel His help to accomplish difficult things. The community of love and service from the various congregations where my husband and I have lived has helped in raising our five children to be great people who know who they are and know the importance of serving others, setting goals and loving life. Because of the teachings of the church and the temple, I have a conviction that I will be with my husband and family even after this life. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, and trust in Him.

How I live my faith

Serving others is one of the greatest joys of my life. As our family has moved to various states, different opportunities for service have filled my life. I have worked with teenage girls for many years in discovering and developing their talents and faith. Teaching young children songs about faith, Jesus and kindness have been especially rewarding. Cub Scouting with young boys has been a special treat in recent years. For several years I worked mainly with adults to help them find information about their ancestors and to find the roots of their family tree. Just for fun, I make quilts for family members, friends, babies or occasionally to sell at auctions.
