Hi I'm Janelle

I'm a Daughter of God. I'm Called to Serve. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

When I started high school in a small farm town in Minnesota, I thought life would be pretty straight-forward. My plan was to graduate, get a degree at BYU-I, work between semesters, and get sealed (married) in the temple. However, I'm learning that life rarely goes as planned. My father's work moved me and my family to Arizona during the summer before I started my senior year of high school. The move was life-altering. I had to adapt to living in a hot climate in a new city, going to school amongst thousands of other students, and driving in traffic. And it was hard. I drew closer to my Heavenly Father in this time period as I prayed more earnestly for help in my new surroundings and for finding good friends. My prayers were more than answered upon meeting a young man once second semester classes began. He was funny, he was kind, and he made me feel special. We graduated together and spent as much time as we could with each other. He made preparations to leave on his mission, and I prepared to go away to school in Idaho. Long story short, we fell in love with each other. Before he left on his mission, we both received overwhelming confimation that we were "meant to be" through the promptings of the Spirit. I thought I would just work and go to school while waiting for him to get back, but life changed again when I went to institute one day and felt that I needed to go on a mission. Now just a month later, I've gotten my call to Reno, Nevada Spanish-speaking!

Why I am a Mormon

I feel in my heart that I have a loving Heavenly Father who knows us personally and wants us to be happy. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, everything is centered around that principle. I am a member of the church because everything I cherish and love is taught in it: Families can be together forever. Jesus Christ suffered the pains of my sins and afflictions so that through repentance, I can be forgiven and return to live with my Father again someday. We are led by a living prophet, and he will not lead us astray. The Book of Mormon contains the fulness of the gospel and I know it to be a true book because the spirit has witnessed that to me time and time again.

How I live my faith

At church, I have the wonderful opportunity of teaching some of the children. The age group I usually work with is the 10-year old class. They are amazingly bright and light up my day. I am so grateful for all that they teach me! I also visit two of the sisters in my ward each month to see how they are doing and to share a brief message with them. Everything I do can be traced back to my belief in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In Minnesota, there were very few members of the church and I had to travel about an hour to go to church or church activities once our little branch in town was broken up because we didn't have enough members to support it. At school I was teased and looked down on for my beliefs, but those bumps in the road helped me to strengthen my faith and belief in Christ. I look back on that experience with gratefulness because my testimony of the gospel grew so much. I have come to truly love the gospel and how it makes me feel, which makes living it a true joy that brings me constant happiness.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Janelle
One of the greatest blessings you can receive from reading the Book of Mormon is that you will have an increased ability to recognize the spirit. I have noticed this in my own life. When I read the scriptures diligently every day, I am blessed to be guided in my words and actions. I like to think of the scriptures as letters from home. Heavenly Father loves us so much that He made sure there was a way for us to get back to Him. His instructions and the perfect example of His son, Jesus Christ, are in the scriptures. If you study the scriptures with real intent, you are blessed with being able to build a personal relationship with Heavenly Father because you get to know Him and are better able to recognize all the blessings He has provided for you.
