Hi I'm Michele Stress

I was born and raised in Key West, FL and moved to Port Orange, FL 11 years ago, and am a recent convert and love it.

About Me

I am a Judicial Assistant and my Judge was born and raised in the LDS faith. He is the one that actually introduced me to the Church and, after six years, I became a member and couldn't be happier. My husband converted a month after me. I have pretty much worked in the court system since graduating from high school. I enjoy being around our grandchildren and love going to the theme parks. My husband and I like to go out in our travel trailer every chance we get (and so do our dogs).

Why I am a Mormon

This would probably be best explained by bearing my testimony. It started over six years ago and while I was working at the State Attorney's Office. I had just been asked by an assistant state attorney to be his secretary in our felony trial court division. We had both worked in different offices and really didn't know each other so, when time permitted, we talked. One thing that I noticed right away was the Book of Mormon that was a permanent fixture on his desk. I had converted to Catholicism when I married my husband and, since I was curious, I would ask questions, which he was more than happy to answer. Every time we talked, I could feel the dedication and belief that he had and I was actually envious. One day he mentioned a book series to me and said if I was interested he would bring me his copy of the first book. I love to read so I said yes. Once I started reading, I asked if I could have a copy of the Book of Mormon and a few days later I had my own copy. I finished reading the series, as well as the Book of Mormon, but I, like many others, couldn't get past Joseph Smith's part in the restoration of the Church. I always kept the Book of Mormon with me and would often pick it up and read a chapter or two. One day the Judge asked if I would be interested in meeting with the Missionaires and I said yes. Let's just say before I met with the Missionaries, I was at the point-of-no-return in my marriage and, one evening, the Missionaries showed up and after talking for a while, we set up a meeting. I told them about my struggle with Joseph Smith and they suggested I pray about it. Well, I did, and my prayers were answered and my concerns removed. I was baptized in October of 2013 and the baptism was performed by the Judge, my long time friend and boss. It has been quite a journey, but now I share the same feeling of devotion and happiness and I know the Book of Mormon is true and that I am a daughter of God.

How I live my faith

I regularly attend our ward's scripture class and I am the secretary to our women's group in the ward. Also, I am part of the committee that is responsible for our spring and fall festivals.
