Hi I'm Ellen

I'm an Army Wife, mother of five, Zumba instructor. photographer....and I'm Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised LDS, the youngest of six children to amazing parents who are still together today. During college years I strayed and had many questions but quickly found myself back at Church and stronger than ever. I married young and had three children. After almost ten years of marriage, my husband announced he was leaving the Church...and me. I was nine months pregnant. It was the most devastating thing I have ever endured. I knew right then I could either become inactive or throw myself into the gospel with more fervency than ever before. I chose the latter. I was blessed to meet an amazing man who fell in love with me AND my children. We married and added two more children to our happy family. Life is good. I now look back on my trials as great blessings which forced me to step up and allow God to shape my life. I am so grateful that choosing to follow the gospel led me to a joyous, beautiful life.

Why I am a Mormon

Even if I wasn't born and raised LDS, I'm sure I would have ended up here. I'm Mormon because it all makes sense. Not only does the gospel speak to my heart, but also my mind. The two go hand in hand and create my unshakeable testimony. I believe we are all born with certain gifts and mine would easily be the gift of knowledge. I know this is the Lord's true Church. I know there can only be one. I know that Joseph Smith was not only the prophet but the much-needed vehicle to restore God's true gospel upon the earth in latter days. Every experience I have had, both in adversity and celebration, has only increased my testimony of the truthfulness of this gospel. I know that I would be completely lost without it. The gospel is the anchor to my life which keeps me centered on what is most important. I am Mormon because with the gospel of Jesus Christ I am able to see through the facade of this world and focus on things that are eternal. I am not fooled by what the adversary might throw my way. I view the gospel as being many pieces to a puzzle. All parts fit perfectly together and create a beautiful picture for my life.

How I live my faith

I'm an active member of the Church, attending Church on Sundays with my family. During the week we get the kids to their activities: young women, scouts and activity day girls. We hold Family Home Evening on Monday nights (when we remember to, haha). We close each day with family prayer and bless every meal. Having a large family with young children, it's not always quiet and peaceful at home, but we try.

What is being a Mormon like?

Ellen
Being Mormon is awesome!! A lot of people feel like it's very strict and there are too many rules, but I've always viewed it as having more freedom. With high standards and guidelines we are free from so much pain and adversity one might face by breaking commandments or having low standards for their life. We truly are a "peculiar people" because clean appearance, clean language, clean living...these days seem to be in the minority. I love NOT following the crowd and being different, for GOOD reasons.
