Hi I'm Sister Garrett

I am currently serving a LDS mission in the England Leeds Mission and love it! I ran for Weber State University. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello, I'm Melissa. I love anything having to do with the outdoors. I love to hike, bike, camp, four-wheel, snowmobile, and especially run. I am currently serving in the England Leeds Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Before my mission I ran for Weber State University's Cross Country and Track team. In track I ran the 1500 meter, 3000 meter and the steeplechase. I love running the steeplechase because it's so hard yet so rewarding. Running allows me to work hard and achieve my goals. After my mission I will continue to run for Weber State University.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because living gospel principles makes me happy. It is simple. When I keep the commandments, follow the council of the prophets, and simply follow Christ, I am happy. I love being happy! I love knowing that I am going to see my family after this life. I cannot accept the fact that we would come to this earth to experience all of these trials and then just die and have that be the end. I know that after death there will be life again. I know that all we experience in this life will help us grow into the kind of person God wants us to be in the life to come. It comforts me to know that death cannot part my family. I know I will see them after this life. I love knowing that all the mistakes I make can be forgiven if I repent. Through the Atonement, I know that if I truly repent any sin I commit will be forgiven. I am glad to know that whatever I do, my Father in Heaven looks past it and still loves me. I love knowing my Father in Heaven and my brother, Jesus Christ, love me. I feel peace knowing that there are two people that will always love me, unconditionally. I know these things and many other things make me so happy. I know this gospel is true! I am a Mormon because I love the peace I feel when I am following Jesus Christ's example.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through example. I am not one to push my views onto those around me. Rather, I live the gospel to the best of my ability and hope that people see the happiness I express. I decided to serve a mission not only to serve the Lord but to share the love Heavenly Father, (God), has for each and everyone of us. We are his children and he wants us to come unto Jesus Christ. Through Faith, Repentance, Baptism, the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End; we can make it back to our father in heaven. We have the opportunity to live happy knowing, that this life isn't the end. The happiness I express is because of my faith in my Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ.

What is faith?

Sister Garrett
Having faith in God means to trust him. Sometimes it's hard to believe in the Lord, but as you have faith you will be able to understand his plan for you. In Helaman 12 verse 1 it reads, "...the Lord is his great infinite goodness doth bless and prosper those who put their trust in him." Back in ninth grade I ran Cross Country. Every single day my high school coach called me to see if I was going to practice and I would make up excuses. No matter the excuse I would hear, “Great. I’ll see you at practice!” So I would go because if I didn’t, I’d feel guilty. Everyday my coach pushed me and everyday it hurt. Running was hard work and practically every workout I wanted to give up but my coach never gave up on me. I didn’t understand until my junior year, when I ran my absolute best season. I ran my first 5k race in 9th grade at 24 minutes and now I can run that same distance in 18:30. She pushed me so hard because she knew I could do great things. Like our Father in Heaven, she knew that I was capable of more and that through struggle I could become faster and stronger. Even though most of the time I could only see as far as the end of a hard workout, she could see beyond a single day. Just like my coach, God knows so much more than we do. I didn’t really believe my high school coach when she said that I could run in college. If my coach could see, the potential in me then imagine what our Heavenly Father knows about our true eternal potential. Show more Show less
