Hi I'm Emily

I'm a Portuguese American from Massachusetts. I have been called to serve as a missionary in Tempe, Arizona. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Massachusetts. My grandparents immigrated to the US from the Azores. I love science, especially human development. At my college I study Physiology and Developmental Biology, and I am considering pursuing a career in medicine. I am currently serving as a Spanish-speaking missionary in the Arizona Tempe Mission. I love music and play the viola and piano. I also love to read and spend time with my family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of the Church, but I knew that if this church was something that I was going to make an important part of my life, I would need a personal conviction of its truth. During my teenage years I studied the scriptures and doctrine of the Church - most importantly however, I prayed to my Father in heaven to know if this is the true church. Through study and prayer, I received knowledge and personal conviction that the church is true. I know that this is the true church, and that Jesus Christ lives, and loves us. I am a Mormon because I love serving Christ.

How I live my faith

In my ward, I have helped with church services in specific callings, usually helping with the music. I love music, and being able to use music to help others worship and feel inspired and uplifted is a wonderful blessing. One of my favorite scriptures is James 1:27 "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to keep himself unspotted from the world." To me the scripture explains a guideline for how I live my religion: while it is important for me to study and learn and grow my own faith, it is as essential for me to reach out to others and serve them. One of the reasons I am interested in medicine is the opportunity it would give me to help improve the lives of my fellow men. I believe that we are all children of God, and helping another person in any way is a privilege. Currently I am serving as a missionary in the Arizona Tempe Mission. I am so blessed to be able to share something that is so important to me with other people. Sharing my beliefs and serving others is how I love my faith.
