Hi I'm Calvin Kelly

I am a traveling nomad with my family. I love to paraglide and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I absolutely love travel and experiencing different ways of life! Three years ago when I was 15 my family and I decided to move out of our house, sell most of our belongings and travel to Guatemala. By living there I have gained a greater appreciation for how blessed my life really is by seeing so many families in poverty, struggling to survive. I have been given many opportunities to give meaningful service and I love helping others discover a new way of thinking. Aside from travel I enjoy playing the ukulele, mountain biking, learning to speak different languages and paragliding. I have been given an amazing life! I love creating music and singing (ukulele), finding excitement in nature (mountain biking), seeing the diversity and beauty in God's creations (traveling), and the feeling of freedom and excitement that comes from flying! While living in Guatemala I have been able to learn Spanish. I now get so excited that I can speak to others in a completely new language! I am now studying to become a polyglot (fluent in 6+ languages). At the moment I am studying Portuguese, Hebrew and Mandarin Chinese.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ for many reasons. Three of them are: One, the message of the gospel (or plan of happiness that our Father in Heaven has prepared for us) gives me hope and happiness for myself and those around me! It gives me a perspective of what I can become and how much God loves me, and also a direction and goal for my life. Two, the gospel makes so much sense. Through study of the Bible and Book of Mormon I have found so many truths and know that the teachings and prophecies inside them are really the words of God given to us by holy prophets. I have received many confirmations that former prophets and modern-day prophets speak for God and are there to help guide you and I on our way back to our Father in Heaven. Three, I love to have fun! As Elder Neil L. Anderson said, “This isn’t missionary work. This is missionary fun.” I know that God is a loving Father and wants us to enjoy life. There are many things people think will bring happiness, but I know through experience and the experiences of others that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only way to a never-ending happiness. I can't deny it, because I'm happy!

How I live my faith

I have just been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I will be giving two years of my life to the service of my Savior and brother Jesus Christ, teaching the people of the Virginia Chesapeake mission area about the best way of life, to follow Christ and have a happy family life. I am grateful for this opportunity and I am living the gospel the best I can so I can help others do the same. While in a foreign country I have been able to translate in church meetings, so that all can understand and feel the spirit. I also have had many opportunities to join the missionaries and teach others about what I believe. I live my faith by serving others and standing as an example so that others may realize the happiness that they too can enjoy in this crazy world.
