Hi I'm Erika Kelly

I was raised in Las Vegas, NV. My family means everything to me. I am serving in the Mississippi Jackson Mission.

About Me

I just graduated from Snow College. I graduated with an Associates degree in science and played volleyball there. I have played volleyball since the age of 13 and love it! The friends I met at school are some of the best people I have ever met. Two of my friends have been married and are great examples to me. The friends I have made are those who help me stay on the path of righteousness. I was a Sunday school teacher in my college ward and it was one of my favorite callings. I loved being able to really understand the lesson, have the spirit talk to me, and know what should be taught to those in my class. I am the oldest child in my family. I have two younger brothers and one younger sister. We all get along pretty well. They are my best friends. My parents are my greatest examples. They were married in the Manti temple 22 years ago. I will be serving a mission in Jackson Mississippi for the next 18 months. I am so excited to give everything I have to the Lord.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church. Growing up we went to church every Sunday, read scriptures as a family, had family home evening every week, said family prayer, and everything alike. I was taught the things I should strive to do and relied on my parents testimony. Throughout high school I did what I knew I should but it wasn't till the end of my senior year and my college career that I truly gained a testimony of this church. My senior year was full of drama and I didn't have many close friends. I learned to turn to the Lord for help. On the days I did my scripture study I could feel the spirit with me. I wasn't bitter towards people at school, classes were more interesting, and it became easier to be happy. When I moved off to college the church became even more important in my life. I remember sitting on my bed one Sunday thinking, "My parents aren't here. There is in fact no one here to force me to go to church. No one would really know. Do I really want to go today?" I am glad to say that I did decide to go to church. I was gaining my own testimony. I was going to church every week and trying to do the things I was suppose to, but I still was not perfect. I know this is in fact the true church of God. I have felt His hand in my life and know He answers our prayers. His prophets preach His word and are guiding His church by following His spirit. The Atonement is the greatest gift He has give us. Without Him this journey is not possible. He is waiting for us to turn to Him so we can become better. He carries us when times get rough, and challenges us when we need it most. As long as we are always striving to become better He will bless us. I am so grateful for all He has given me and am excited to serve Him for 18 months. In the name of Jesus Christ amen.

How I live my faith

Like I said in the section above I was the Sunday school teacher while I was attending Snow College. It has been one of my favorite callings and I miss it dearly. I was able to really study the lessons and although I was preparing to teach for those in my class, I was given personal insight. I learned how to better listen to the spirit while preparing and teaching. The spirit helped my know the direction I should take while teaching and if I should share any personal stories. Before I went off to college I had the calling of being over the nursery aged kids. I loved being able to get to know those little ones. They all have such sweet spirits and were so fun to play with. I loved teaching them about Christ and his church. For the summer my calling is the financial specialist in the ward. I am in charge of helping those who are unemployed or underemployed to find a job. It has been an interesting calling and I am still learning how to do it in the most effective way.
