Hi I'm Geoff Walker

I'm a Submariner in the United States Navy, family man, unashamed geek, former Atheist, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm the Chief of the Boat on a United States Navy Submarine. I've been in the Navy for about 18 years now. I've been all over the world through the Navy, but nothing makes me happier than spending time with my family. I love cars, home improvements, football and baseball, but I'm also a gigantic nerd at heart, I love all things that most people associate with beng a dork... Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Magic:The Gathering, and videogaming are some of my favorites. I'm a redhead and so is my wife, Amanda, so we tend to make beautiful redheaded babies that stand out in a crowd. We have three wonderful children. Mara (8), Arya (5), and Leia (2 mo) are our daughters and we also have a 2 year old son named Lochlan. I love sharing my passion for geek stuff with my Kids. I like being outdoors and spending time with my family at the park, beach, or anywhere else in Hawaii.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm an adult convert and I know what life is like outside of believing in Christ. I choose to be a Mormon because through the gospel of Jesus Christ my life has a renewed sense of purpose and desire for improvement. I tend to look at all religions objectively and Mormonism just makes more sense to me than anything else. All religions are peculiar when viewed objectively, but many of the tenants of Mormonism work for me and my life. I love the plan of Salvation and the hope that it offers me. I love having the answer and confidence to know where I came from, why I am here, and where am I going. I love the knowlegede of seeing God as a Loving, Heavenly Father and how that explains so much of why things are the way in our lives. I relate to my own experiences as a parent and it makes so much sense to me. I love the Book or Mormon and the clarity and focus of its message of Christ's love. I love the serenity and peace I experience at the Tenple. I love the knowledge that families are forever. I love seeing the change in my life, my relationship with my wife and my raltionahip with my children since joining the Church. I love the surety and peace of mind that comes from Christ's Atonement. I love the empathy towards my fellow man that I have when I view everyone as a fellow Child of God, a spiritual brother or sister. I love being a part of a Gospel that views faith as a verb and not a noun. A Gospel that necessitates action and encourages me to strive for more that what I might think I am capabale of. I know that my Heavenly Father sees potential in me that I simply cannot. Finally, I'm a Mormon because I've lived and experienced the other side. Life can be lived without a relationship with Heavenly Father and his Son, but in my own experience, that is a life not lived to its fullest potential. I'm a million miles away from perfection, but through the Gospel of Christ, I know that each day I am getting a few inches closer.

How I live my faith

Being in the military can be a little strange as a member, but I enjoy being a little different from the other guys Sometimes. The submarine force is a small community, so when I run into old shipmates, they are often surprised that I have joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They've all been able to notice the positive change in my life and can tell that there is something else working for good that wasn't there before. I enjoy trying to be a good witness for Christ and setting a good example for my men. I try to just be as much like Christ as I can. It's an impossible task and something that I fail at on an hourly basis, but it's always worth trying.
