Hi I'm Allyson Smoot

I'm second of five girls, I'm passionate about music and the arts, I love to laugh and joke and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student at BYU and although I love learning and understanding new things, yes, I still procrastinate. I have been singing ever since I can remember and I love acting and dancing as well. Harry Potter and Shakespeare bring me happiness. I love playing instruments and pretending I'm an artist. I have a weakness for sweets and pretty much all food. I enjoy sarcastic conversations with my friends and speaking in several different accents. But above all, I love being with people. Put a few good friends and family, laughter, and good food in the same room and I'm happy. I'm now serving in Osorno, Chile as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints proclaiming the happiness and good news this gospel has brought me.

Why I am a Mormon

If I could try to identify the source of any happiness I have felt on this earth, it would come back to the fact that my Heavenly Father loves me. I know that he cares about me so much that I can't even comprehend it. I have felt the warm, loving power that comes from Him swell in my heart. I have seen the grandeur of this earth and the beauty of it, the smiles on the faces of my loved ones and the miracles that happen every day; each of these make me realize the infinite love our heavenly father has for me. For everyone. Throughout my life there have been times when I have doubted and my knowledge has wavered, but every time I sincerely ask, He is there. If it is instant or if it takes action on my part through reading the Bible and Book of Mormon, praying, and pondering, He will answer. He always does. I know this is the only true church on this earth, I’m grateful to have the fullness of the gospel in my life, and I’m so happy I get to proclaim it every day.

How I live my faith

The biggest way I live my faith is by trying each day to be a little better. I try to find opportunities to serve people, talk to someone, or even simply give a younger girl a hug and tell her she looks beautiful. I try to focus on the positive and look forward, remembering that the atonement of Jesus Christ makes it possible for us to start again every day. And although I am completely imperfect, I know eventually I can be perfected in Christ. It's through the small and simple things that great things can happen.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Allyson Smoot
God is our Heavenly Father. He isn't some force that is out in space somewhere, nor is He someone that only sends down his wrath upon the wicked. He loves us SO much. He is there for us no matter how trivial our problems are. If it is important to us, it is important to god. It's also important to continually strengthen our relationship with him and learn to trust in his timing. I love my Heavenly Father and know he loves me. Show more Show less
