Hi I'm John J. Lecardo

I'm a former restaurant, bar, and health salon owner. I am now retired having worked 26 years in Sikorski Aircraft. I'm a Mormon

About Me

Golf and collecting chess sets are my main hobbies now that I am retired. In the past I owned several different cars, all of which were powerful, great looking, and could be considered collector's cars. You could often see me in local parades on my trike composite made of Volkswagon and Harley Davis Motorcycle Springer parts. I currently own a Honda Motorcycle and two trucks; one, a '51 Ford and the other a '55 Ford Ranger, a 2004 Volkswagon for my wife, and I am driving a 2008 Infinity M35X. Grandfather of six, step-grandfather to thirteen and step-great-grandfather to one; I am often hosting a swim in our above ground pool or relaxing in the hot tub. Family gatherings are usually held at my house with as many as from 20 to forty people attending. My only son was killed by a drunk driver one evening while on the way home from work. In memory of his death and as a reminder to others the dangers of driving while drinking, an annual memorial Walk/5K Run is held. This is sponsored by a foundation in his name and of which I am a member of the board. The proceeds from this run are given to other victims of this type of tragedy. We also work with MADD in making others aware of the consequences of driving drunk.

Why I am a Mormon

As I follow the doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I find my life changed immensely and all to the better. As with all of us, I am imperfect, but find contentment, comfort, and hope in these teachings. As I progress in the gospel, I find that adversity does not avoid me. But the deep testimony gained through the process of my conversion has sustained and supported me throughout these many years. I cannot deny the experiences I had and that they came from God. Knowing this has helped me hold fast to the "iron rod" or word of God, even when life was difficult, or temptations strong.

How I live my faith

Attending church every Sunday is important to me. But equally important is being engaged in the meetings, services and all other activities. I am actively researching my ancestry so as to unite all of my family together and am involved in encouraging other members to do the same. As a convert from a large Italian-Catholic family, I am the only member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints so feel a great obligation and responsibility to do our genealogy and family history. As I research my family I am contacting those whom I have not seen in many years, I am learning facts about names and relationships that were little known before. So some of my family, although not understanding the importance, are interested and involved. As I actively participate in the Home Teaching program of the Church, I find there are many ways to serve. There are those to whom I bring a spiritual message, some I bring temporal blessings, but being able to serve brings me so many blessings; blessings of comfort, prosperity and joy.
