Hi I'm Spencer

I grew up in Minnesota. I like learning and laughing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Shortly after, my family moved to Minnesota and my two little brothers were born. After seven years, we moved to Utah. My little sister was adopted there. I love being with my family and serving others. I played lacrosse in high school. I like doodling and drawing. I love snowball fights and skiing and sledding and boogie-boarding.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was young I went to church and primary but didn't necessarily believe everything I was taught. I just knew that it was taught and it's what my family wanted me to believe. But when I was eight or so years old and I felt very alone and afraid, I prayed to know if God was there. I felt peace and comfort enter my heart and from then on I could never deny that God exists. I went to LDS Seminary classes and was challenged personally to read the Book of Mormon. I did so, and I read Moroni's promise at the end. I was so excited and hopeful as I closed my book that night and knelt down to pray. With a sincere desire to know if it was all true, I asked my Heavenly Father. I felt that same peace and calm come upon me, assuring me of the veracity of the Book of Mormon and the things I had learned in church. Whenever I pray to my Heavenly Father, I know that I will be answered, even if in unexpected ways, because I know that He loves me. I am a child of God and I love my Father.

How I live my faith

I have always tried to live my life in a way that pleases God. I have always been far from perfect in this goal, but I have learned that God is a God of mercy, and all who want forgiveness will have it. I go to church every Sunday at my local meetinghouse and learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have served in Boy Scouts and young men's groups for years. I hometeach multiple families in my area every month (hometeaching is basically making friends in the Church). I try to fast every month and treat strangers like family. I ask myself everyday if I am acting and thinking like Jesus or like the people Jesus taught, and I try to improve myself everyday. Now, I am serving an LDS mission! I am currently learning the Mandarin Chinese language in the Missionary Training Center in Provo and preparing myself to serve the people of Toronto, Canada. I'm excited and I cannot wait to get there. Over time I have developed the belief that God will not judge us by the mistakes we make, but how we react to those mistakes. This fills me with hope and light and a strong desire to always turn to my God in faith.
