Hi I'm Eric Van Vleet

I grew up in California. I attended BYU Hawaii and love to experience different cultures. I enjoy extreme sports. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello friends! My name is Eric. I grew up in an American/Japanese family and have traveled between the countries from a young age. Through these experiences I have grown a profound love of different cultures and want to travel the world. My love for cultures has also influenced my college plans and I chose to attend BYU Hawaii. Attending school there was an eye opening experience and allowed me to meet people from all over the world. I also developed a love for surfing there and it has become a favorite hobby of mine. Other activities I enjoy are backpacking, swimming, and longboarding. After my first year of college I decided to serve a mission and will serving in the Tokyo South Mission! I am excited to serve the people of Japan and teach people the gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

In my life happiness is key and to understand my place on this world has been a critical part of my life. Being a part of the LDS church has allowed me to realize that I have an important role in the world and that I can find happiness in the pureness of the world (nature, family, and friends). I know that there is a meaning to this life and it is to live with my heavenly father again. Not only do I live with my heavenly father, but I can also be with my family forever. This knowledge fills me with joy and comforts me to know that I can be with those who care about me most. I am so thankful to have this knowledge and that I can spread this message to others on my mission.

How I live my faith

I have been raised in the church so I have been provided with many opportunities to live my religion. My favorite church activity to be apart of was young mens and Boy Scouts. In these programs I was able experience service projects and camping activities. Service projects are surprisingly enjoyable; through the Boy Scouts I was able to earn my Eagle Scout and set an example of the church to those around me. In young mens I had the opportunity to invite friends to activities and introduce them to the church. I truly enjoy church activities and invite everyone to come join in on the fun!
