Hi I'm Johann Tran

I'm half Vietnamese, half German. Work as a Ocean Life Guard, love Doctor Who, I'm a New Yorker and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, my name is Johann. I'm a half German half Vietnamese New Yorker, volunteer EMT, Ocean Lifeguard, and a Mormon. In my free time I love to camp/backpack and watch Doctor Who and Football. For the Next two years I will be serving the people of Nicaragua as a LDS missionary.

Why I am a Mormon

There is a certain point in every members life that is raised in the church where they have to ask themselves whether or not this church is true. Well during my senior year in high school the church lowered the age that male missionaries could go out and serve. Throughout that year I really thought long and hard about serving. Ever since I was little I always wanted to be a missionary, I was always told that one day I would be one too. I asked myself, Is this something that I truly believe in? Cause if I didn't, how could I spend two years of my life preaching to people something I wasn't completely sure about. Well long story short, here I am about to leave on my mission. God does answer prayers, sometimes in ways that take us awhile to understand but he does. He loves us so much. He provided a way for us to return to him and live with our families after this life. He continues to speak to us in this modern day through his prophets. The first of these latter day prophets was Joseph Smith. While a young man in the year 1820, Joesph lived in New York. During that time there was a lot of religious excitement and everyone including him and his family were torn because so many different priests explained the bible so differently. It was very hard for him to know which church was true and he desperately wanted to know. So one day while reading the Bible, he read James 1:5. Which said that if anyone lacked wisdom let him ask of God. Joesph pondered on those words and decided one day to take action. Alone in the woods near his house he knelt down and started to pray out loud. While he was praying he said that a column of light appeared above him and in it were two personages who's brightness and glory were beyond all description. And one of them said to Joesph, "Here is my beloved son, hear him". I testify that God the Father and his son Jesus Christ spoke with him. I know in my heart that these things are true and that is why I choose to serve my mission.

How I live my faith

Ever since I was 14 I would always go out with the Elders to teach the gospel. Now that I am going to be serving my mission I was called to be a branch missionary. I love going out and attending to the needs of those around me, just like Jesus Christ did to all those he visited. I believe that serving those in need of help and guidance is the best way to show our love for our neighbors. Also I teach primary class and I enjoy it so much. When I was a primary kid myself I was so rowdy so receiving this calling is really just poetic irony.
