Hi I'm Ellen

I am a student trying to learn everything I can about the world and the people in it. I love sugar cookies. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently taking a break from my schooling at Brigham Young University to serve as a full time missionary for the church in Rancagua, Chile- beginning October 2014. Since I was little I have loved exploring new places and looking for adventure. So far in my life I've been all around the world, from Fiji, to Africa, to Mexico, to numerous countries in Europe, and I hope to spend the rest of my life exploring the world. I love all kinds of theatre. I spent a year working backstage in a theatre, learning the ropes on how productions are put on, and the things necessary to make a great show. I also spent a semester abroad studying theatre and Shakespeare in London. I have such a deep appreciation and love for the arts. Whether it's the performing arts, media arts, literature, or visual arts- I've always found myself drawn to the way the human experience is expressed through art. In addition to traveling and arts, I also love to eat anything with too much sugar, take naps, read, go on long drives, and try to figure out how everything in the world works.

Why I am a Mormon

There have been multiple times in my life where my faith has been put to the test. At a few of those more trying times, when everything around me seemed to be falling apart, the only constant I had was my Savior. Through the toughest of times, I have found an undeniable peace and comfort that has only come through my understanding of the gospel. There have been many nights where I have prayed in all humility, with a broken heart, that I could receive a personal witness of my own to know that Jesus Christ is my Savior, and that He is there looking after me. I've spent hours on my knees in sincere prayer, and poured myself into my scriptures. It was only after I really submitted to the Lord's will that I developed the relationship that I have with Him now. Everyday I have to work at being better than I was yesterday, and I am constantly working on building an even stronger relationship with my Father in Heaven. But He has made it clear to me time and time again, that He is there, He knows me, and He loves me. The gospel of Jesus Christ has been such a comfort to me, and has brought me happiness that I have yet to find anywhere else. It has helped me live a righteous and blessed life, and has brought me joy beyond measure. I love my Savior, and I know that He sacrificed Himself so that we imperfect humans could return to live in happiness with our Heavenly Father one day. It is the reason I am devoting a year and a half of my life to the people of Chile. I want nothing more than to help everyone feel the same joy and love that I have felt since devoting my entire life to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

As I mentioned before, starting in October I begin my 18 month mission to Chile to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Chileans. I have taken part in many different assignments in my church since I was only 12 years old. I have served as president over groups of girls my age, taught classes about the church and the gospel, and been in charge of planning and organizing activities for my church group up at college. Despite all those things I've done, however, I have learned that the best way to live my faith is simply by serving God's children. The greatest joy I have ever received has been at the times when I am in the service of my fellow man. My testimony of Jesus Christ has only grown to what it is because of the undeniable love that I have felt when I am serving my brothers and sisters.
