Hi I'm Riley Heflin

I'm a concert junkie, a paintball enthusiast, a cancer survivor, and (of course), a Mormon!

About Me

Hi there! My name is Riley, and I am currently serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm an 18 year old high school graduate and will be attending college after my mission. I'm a huge fan of music and play the guitar whenever I get the chance. I'm also a passionate sports fan and played football through high school. When I was only 15 I was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and was treated with chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Luckily the treatments were successful and I'm still around to this day! My experiences have inspired me to pursue a career in medical administration as I hope to give back to the countless doctors and nurses who served me in the past. In the mean time I have created a business as an ice cream truck driver in my local community, but when I'm not working I can usually be found at concerts or live sporting events!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised as a Mormon, however, I had to receive a knowledge of this church's truth through my own effort and experiences. In the past I have gone through several trials that have shown me the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. Being a young teenager with a very serious form of cancer, I often encountered struggles that potentially could have shaken my faith in God. However, day after day I saw the Lord's hand in my life. I read The Book of Mormon and studied the stories that it told of other faithful people who had endured harsh and difficult experiences. Their testimony of God's love for them had an impact on me that changed my life. Even though I was weak and sick I felt a growing feeling of optimism, hope, and happiness. I depended on God and had faith in him. This faith carried me through my trials in a recovery that amazed doctors. I experienced the love that Jesus Christ had for me and knew of the power of his gospel. My experiences have inspired me to live a fulfilling life and to share the same messages that I found while my life was in peril. The knowledge that I have received has helped me carry through my every day life with a sense of peace and happiness.

How I live my faith

Jesus Christ gave us all some really neat advice about living and sharing our faith. He said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Every day I try to let my light shine by serving others, just like Jesus Christ did. Sure, I can't perform mighty miracles or anything fancy like that, but the small and simple things that I do every day can help me feel closer to God. Whether it be helping a stranger with a flat tire or just simply complimenting the cashier at my favorite fast food restaurant, I've discovered that when I try to be like Jesus in all that I say and do I feel peace and sublime happiness in my life. It's the perfect win-win situation!
