Hi I'm Vashti

I'm from Hong Kong. I love creating bric-a-bac for family and friends. I love studying languages and cultures. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Hong Kong. Like the vast majority of people here, Chinese is my first language. When I was about nine, I was transferred to an English school with classmates from all around the world. The only common language was English- and we all had to use English at school anyway- so I suddenly found myself introduced to the English community in Hong Kong. Even though I struggled to become fluent in English at first, very soon I forgot most of my Chinese, and now I am most comfortable with Chinglish. This experience led me to realize how much I enjoy learning about the relationships between different languages and language acquisition.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I've prayed and read the scriptures that the Lord has given us. I have felt the love God has for me, for all of us, especially when I've felt the most hurt, lost and alone. It gives me so much comfort and strength to know that Christ lives, and is our Saviour and Redeemer. He knows me more than I know myself, and had felt personally the hurt and loneliness that I've ever felt, and the trials and challenges that I have ever struggled with. I know that because of His atonement of our sins, we will all be resurrected. Because of Hs great and eternal sacrifice, as long as I follow the Lord's commandments, I will be able to return to Heavenly Father's presence again, and can be with my family, together forever.

How I live my faith

I taught the Teachings of the Presidents of the Church for a while to the women in my ward. I know I probably wasn't the most experienced nor the most eloquent teacher around, but I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve the sisters around me by doing my best to share my testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel with them. I also love playing music, especially hymns on the piano, and sometimes singing hymns with the ward choir. I always feel closer to the Lord, and more in tune with the Spirit when I'm singing or playing hymns or even simply listening to these sacred music and paying attention to the words in the hymns. Through worship through music, my faith and testimony are strengthened.
