Hi I'm McKay

I'm the Fifth of Eight children in my family. I love running and music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up playing games with my siblings in my back yard. Having two older bothers, I had to learn to keep up playing with them. My family's motto is "I can do hard things". We filled our time with outdoor activities including bike rides, playing at parks, yard work, and weeding gardens. I played on soccer and basketball teams since I was 5 until the end of middle school. I ran track and cross country all four years of high school. I will serve a Spanish speaking mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile for 2 years. I was able to follow the example of my two brothers who served missions, and sisters who were sealed in the temple. I continue a tradition of hard work and hopefully a good example to my younger siblings.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family, and attending church meetings seemed like tradition and culture. It's just what I did. Nevertheless, as I grew, i did not want to rely upon others' feelings and beliefs. I continued to attend and strive to know for myself what was right. I prayed to my Heavenly Father constantly, and piece by piece I decided for myself that this is the true church. My testimony of the church grows every time I ask for help from my Heavenly Father trough prayer and he helps me. It has not always been easy, and I have had trials along the way, but if I strive to follow the counsel prophets give from Heavenly Father, I am blessed and find my way. I know that our Heavenly Father listens to our prayers individually and loves us individually. I know that by following His commandments we are protected and guided so that we may return to Him again. I feel His love for me. That love and acceptance is more valuable to me than anything this world can offer. That's why I always turn to Him. I know this to be true, for He has told me through daily confirmations, and I know in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

How I live my faith

I have the opportunity to home-teach and visit a family of two adorable young girls and a single mother. I try to be an example to them where they do not have a father with them. I also attend my church services weekly where I get to teach a group of about 8 children who are 8 or 9 years old, that love to be active and tell stories about almost everything. Each week I strive to create an atmosphere in my class where they can learn and have an enjoyable time, but not get out of control. It can be a hard balance. I have a fun group of about 15 boys my age living near me that love to play sports. We participate in both planned and unplanned service activities. We will fix up homes, rake leaves, shovel snow, prune bushes, mow lawns, and do almost any work conceivable around the house for elderly individuals living in our area.
