Hi I'm Sharly

I love to play the clarinet. I have a sister who is adopted. I love to visit art museums. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family consists of my mom, dad, and 2 little sisters. One of our favorite things to do is go to the zoo together, and we have a zoo pass so we can all the time. I love music. In high school I played the clarinet and tenor saxophone. I was very close to my teacher and my band friends. Being accepted there helped me be gain self-confidence. This past year at college, I did marching band. The games were a lot of fun and playing on the field felt amazing. My first year at college, I loved my roommates and they are some of my best friends. We loved to go to breakfast, sing in the car, and watch movies. It was scary to live with people I didn't know, but it turned out great! I am majoring in art history, and I would love to work in a museum. Going to museums is one of my favorite things to do. Some of my favorite artists are Matisse, Monet, and Caravaggio. I also really enjoy Islamic art, which I took a class about. Right now I am taking a break from school to serve a mission for 18 months, and I am very excited! I am speaking ASL, which I absolutely love.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, and I have continued throughout my life to follow the Gospel. I do this because I love Heavenly Father and I love Jesus. I love the happiness and peace that is in my life because of this church. I know if I put my trust in the Lord, He will help me through life. Because Christ atoned for our sins, I can be changed and be a better person. I trust God and know that He has a plan for my life that is more amazing than any plan I could come up with. One of the greatest blessings is knowing that my family can be together forever. My parents adopted my little sister when I was four. We brought her home the day after she was born, and it was the happiest day ever. I wanted a sibling more than anything. I love my sister, and I want to be with her forever. My family was sealed together in the temple, which means we are bound together for eternity if we live worthily. It is such a comfort to know that I can be with my sister and the rest of my family forever.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite things I have participated in in the community is helping out people with special needs. When I was 14, I chose to start going every Thursday night to help out. We would first sing some church songs, then have a lesson. Usually the night would end with a fun activity, like a craft or short movie. We had participants from all over the city. My favorite thing to do was go to camp with them in the summer. For three days, we did crafts, taught lessons, and just chatted. Being with them makes me so happy because I can see Christ's light and love in them.
