Hi I'm Valerie

I grew up in Orange County, California. I'm serving a mission in Argentina. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a student at Brigham Young University, studying finance. I love to play any sport, but my favorite is volleyball. I've been playing piano since I was 6 years old. I love going to the beach, hiking, swimming, wakeboarding: basically anything outside.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is led by none other than our Savior, Jesus Christ. I try to come unto Christ everyday by praying and reading my scriptures. I feel such peace through the gospel and its sacred, simple truths. Our Heavenly Father has a Plan of Happiness to bring each of His children back to Him. He cares about us so much and wants the best for us. I know that He hears my prayers and answers them, because He loves me. I know that he restored his church on the earth today through modern revelation, the prophet Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon is His word, and it completes the doctrines we learn about in the Bible. I know that President Thomas S. Monson is His prophet on the earth today, and that he speaks to him.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday as I go out into the world. I participate in family history work, researching my ancestors and their lives. I sing in choirs at church, and accompany the congregation on the piano and organ.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

All Mormons are not required to serve a mission. Boys can serve starting at 18 and girls can serve starting at 19. Missionaries come from every country and serve wherever they are called. I submitted my mission papers in February because I want to serve the Lord. I know I can't repay Him in any way, but I can show my love to Him by sharing the peace I have found through His gospel with His children. There is no other work that would compel me to leave my home, my family, my friends, and all other personal affairs behind for a year and half than the work of the Lord. I know that the Lord is personally involved in the work. He will bless me as I serve him with my whole soul. Without Him, though, I would be nothing. I'm merely an instrument in His hands. I opened my call in a hotel room in Spain (where I was studying at the time), with a few friends gathered around, and my family on Skype. As soon as I read that I would be serving in Salta, Argentina, I knew it was where the Lord needed me. Show more Show less
