Hi I'm Adam Oakley

I'm a sucker for love ballads. I rock a mustache. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 31 years old. My wife and I have been married for almost 10 years. We have two boys (4 & 2) and a baby girl on the way. I graduated from college in 2009 with a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture. I've been mowing lawns, pruning trees, and installing/repairing sprinkler systems since I was a boy. Last year I started a new career in energy efficiency management with a focus in financial advising and planning. It's completely new and foreign to me, but I do what I need to for my family. We enjoy working on our house, watching TV, traveling, and finding new places to eat at. We are big Utah Jazz and Real Salt Lake fans.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a very black and white kind of a person. I like order and I like things to make logical sense to me. Life is never this way, but I feel that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is. A lot of people say that there is no reason for organized religion, that you can find God anywhere, and that as long as you're happy that's all that matters. All of these things are in fact true, however the meaning of them has been tweaked by Satan to minimize the importance of spiritual order in our lives. As humans, we are forgetful. We constantly do dumb things over and over again. It's foolish to think that on our own we can make any needed changes at any time. God, our Heavenly Father, is a God of order, not confusion. He would never inspire man to set up numerous churches all teaching different things. He would, however, set up one church with the entirety of truth for the benefit of all mankind. He would set up this church, because we are a forgetful people and we need to be reminded of what's right and what, when, why, and how we are to perform our duties while on this Earth. That church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I know this because I know The Book of Mormon is the word of God. It's a holy scripture just like the Bible is. Since I know The Book of Mormon is true, I know that Joseph Smith was called of God to be his prophet on the Earth. We have a living prophet today. God loves us and he wants us to be happy. We can be truly happy as members of this church, because God speaks to his prophet today. Through this prophet we can be blessed. All of these things prove for me 100% that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer, this is His church and we can know him.

How I live my faith

About 2 years ago I was called to serve as a counselor in our Ward's Bishopric. As a leader in the Ward, I have the enormous blessing of working with our youth (ages 12-18) as well as with all of the other amazing Ward leaders. The Bishop and his other counselor and I enjoy another huge blessing of being in the homes of our neighbors throughout the Ward. We try and visit as many people as we can each week. The thing I enjoy the most about my calling is watching the Christlike activities that go on behind the scenes for those in need. I'm constantly amazed and inspired by the selfless service given by those around me.
