Hi I'm Tommy Stuart

I am the oldest of 6 kids. I'm a recent high school graduate. I'm leaving to serve a mission in Russia. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just graduated from high school and am leaving for a mission in St. Petersburg, Russia at the end of the month where I will teach people about Jesus Christ and my beliefs as a Mormon. I play football, track, and basketball, and love spending time with my family including my parents and my 5 siblings.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are both members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I grew up in the church as well. I wasn't however pushed or forced into becoming a member. It was a choice I made for myself. I saw how happy it made my family as well as many of my friends and wanted it for myself. The church is centered on Jesus Christ and the fact that through Jesus Christ we can get rid of our mistakes and live forever with our families. It brings happiness. Isn't that what we are all searching for? That's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I love telling others about my beliefs especially the importance of families and Jesus Christ. I recently baptized a friend into the church and have loved seeing the impact it's made in both our lives. I serve as a ward missionary currently. I go out with the full time missionaries assigned to the area I live in and help them teach others of Christ and His church and help serve others. Next month I will become a full time missionary in Russia where I will do the same.

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Tommy Stuart
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a worldwide church. Member are found in every country across the world. Because this is so, members are assigned to attend a specific congregation (ward) based on where they live. The leader of the ward is called a bishop. If there are few members found in the area where you live the members are often organized into a branch instead of a ward. The leader of a branch is called a branch president. Several wards and branches make up what is called a stake. The leader of a stake is called a stake president. These stakes may be in different locations around the world, however the teachings found in each are the same. Attending a ward in Africa is the same as attending a ward in Arizona. In each branch, ward, and stake members learn of Jesus Christ and his gospel. Each member has a certain responsibility in his/her ward to serve the members around them. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Tommy Stuart
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is centered on Jesus Christ. The main purpose of the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon is to testify of Christ's divinity. The Bible gives great insight on how to become like Christ and how to follow Him. It foretells of Christ and gives a record of His ministry. It is a central part in everything we as Mormons believe. What is being a Mormon like?

Tommy Stuart
Many people see Mormons and the way we live and think it is difficult because of the many commandments and standards we are required to live up to. We can't drink alcohol or coffee, we can't go to the movies on Sunday, we can't swear. There are many other things we are not supposed to do. However our religion is one of agency. Mormon are normal human beings. We can do what we want; it's all up to us. We are never forced to do anything. Personally I've found these commandments not to be rules or guidelines but blessings. I've found living them has made me happy and has kept me out of trouble. The whole purpose of life is to become like Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father. All the standards found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints follow the commandments given by Christ of how to live. They help me become more like Christ daily and make me happy. Being a Mormon has been a great blessing to me and has changed the way I think and act. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Tommy Stuart
We live in a world where evidence is demanded to prove an idea. The evidence of God's existence lies around us. Look at the earth, the sky, every animal, and plant. There is such diversity and detail in each. How could these things just simply appear or come together? I believe only by the hand of God could these things be created. Another thing I have as evidence is my personal testimony or beliefs. I know there is a God not because I have physically seem Him but because I have felt Him. I have prayed to know if there is a God. I didn't receive a thundering or amazing answer. However I felt at peace and knew He is real. I can't promise you you will feel the same as I did but I can promise you that you can find out for yourself if there is a God if you sincerely pray to know if He is there. Show more Show less
