Hi I'm Chrissy

I'm a wife and an adoptive foster mom. I teach. I'm also an accordionist, a new violinist and a writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live in an isolated rural town on the edge of a vast wilderness area. I'm happy to have a busy, creative mind to keep myself happy. I love to play music on my accordion or my violin. I love to watch ballets and dance ballet. I love to read. I write historical fiction and fantasy, but I'm also starting to get enthusiastic about writing the story of my life, which has been unusual and eventful. During the school year, I teach the students in the juvenile detention center. My husband and I adopted a teenager from foster care last year, even though we are pretty young ourselves. Helping this child, who needs much more attention and direction than other boys his age, has stretched me to my limit and helped me to grow. Being a mom is super hard, but super rewarding. Moms put forth hours of emotional and physical exertion and get paid in little priceless unexpected drops of sunshine.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I read and prayed about the Book of Mormon. I know that the Book of Mormon is true because of how full of light and peace I feel when I read it. These feelings come from God. The Book of Mormon, with the Bible and the words of our living prophets, has brought me closer and closer to my Savior, Jesus Christ. I have found amazing, lasting happiness in this gospel. Even when things are really hard--and things do get really hard for my little family sometimes!--I can feel peace underneath all the stress and turmoil. I can know that things will work out all right, and that God lets us experience challenges so we can grow. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is truly the Lord's church on the earth today, with all of the spiritual gifts and priesthood power I read about in the New Testament. I am so happy that I can belong to this wonderful church and I am proud to be called a Mormon.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ gives my life a purpose. It helps me remember that families can last forever, and encourages me to spend plenty of time with my husband and son.. The three of us spend time together reading, walking the dog and playing games. I try not to get too wrapped up in too many things that take me away from my family--but I still enjoy my weekly violin lesson a lot! We also like to visit others who are learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ to offer them our support and friendship. My husband and I did a lot of visiting before we adopted, and now our jabberbox son likes to come with us on these visits.

What is the Law of Chastity?

All of God's laws are designed to bless our lives. The law of chastity has blessed my family so much. We have been protected from addictions and infidelity because of our commitment to this law. We safely trust in each other and can be united and happy in our marriage. Growing up, I dated respectful young men who also believed in the law of chastity. Because of this foundation of respect for each other, we were able to have wholesome, lighthearted fun. We went bowling, hiking and dancing. My dates dropped me off at home just as innocent and clean as when they picked me up. Then, when my husband came into my life, I knew he was also a respectful young man. We dated, and when we married we were able to offer each other our whole selves. I think the best part of keeping the law of chastity is that when we keep it, we can enjoy the closeness and guidance of the Lord. The Holy Ghost, who helps us hear what God has to say to us, can reach us when we keep the law of chastity. Those who break this law can repent and be made clean and pure through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. They can then again enjoy the blessings of the law of chastity, including the closeness of the Lord and the ability to feel the guidance and comfort that comes from the Holy Ghost. Show more Show less
