Hi I'm Barbra

I'm a lucky wife, mother and grandmother who loves my life and my family and I feel so blessed to be a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a wife, mother and grandmother who loves spending time with my family and friends. My husband is my best friend and we love to golf, hike, bike, watch old classic movies, exercise and even fish together. He recently retired from a very busy, demanding career and we are enjoying the freedom of setting our own schedule and having more time to spend together. I also love playing the piano, sewing, handwork, reading and gardening---and I used to be quite the water-skier. I love my relationships with my children and I'm so proud of each of them for the way they are choosing to live their lives and raise their families. Their friendship means so much to me and they often make my day with a fun text, call or email. My 13 grandchildren bring me so much joy and always make me feel surrounded with love. My close girlfriends are fabulous and we work hard at finding ways to stay close and opportunities to be together now that we are spread out serving missions all over the world, traveling to spend time with children and grandchildren or caring for elderly parents. Their love and support and examples are so important to me!

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is so much more to me than just habit or tradition or culture or a social network. It is part of the very fiber of my being to know that I am a daughter of my Heavenly Father who loves me, and that this is His true church, restored in its fullness with the proper authority of His priesthood power, bestowed directly from Him and those who held His power anciently, to perform saving ordinances that will bind families together beyond this life into eternity. I know that Joseph Smith actually saw God the Father and His son, Jesus Christ in answer to his humble prayer, and that he was chosen by them to restore the fullness of the everlasting gospel which had been lost from the earth after Christ's ministry. I know that The Book of Mormon is true and was written by ancient prophets to come forth in our day to teach us the consequences of disobedience and to stand as another witness that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, our Savior and Redeemer and the only way back to the Father. I know He was born, lived a perfect life, was crucified and rose again to live forever, and that because He loved us enough to carry out this atonement to pay for our sins, we each have the opportunity to choose to repent and keep His commandments so that we can return to live with Him forever after this life. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is directed by Him and that He communicates with the prophets and apostles who lead us today and that if I follow their counsel, I will never be led astray. I know that Satan is real and that the only way to be truly happy is to stay on the straight and narrow path that leads back to our Heavenly Father. These are the truths that I have come to know through the Holy Ghost and they bring meaning and direction to everything that I do. I am so grateful for His love that I feel so abundantly in my life and for the knowledge that my family can be together eternally.

How I live my faith

Because I was lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mom I was usually involved in volunteer service in my children's schools, often organizing class parties or school-wide reading incentive programs. My college degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education was a great help to me through these years and I recently had the opportunity to teach a class of children again every week at church and loved it. I have also enjoyed belonging to a women's group in our community dedicated to showing support for the Constitution and contacting state legislators concerning political issues that effect the moral climate in our city and state. I have also loved serving for many years in several presidencies with other women in my church where we were responsible for organizing both youth programs for young women ages 12 to 18 and also our adult women's meetings, lessons and activities. I truly came to love those I served, and it has been such a privilege to love so many young (and not-so-young) women! The women I served with in those presidencies will be my friends forever! Because of my musical talents, I've spent most of my adult life accompanying many choirs and soloists in church meetings. I think music can express better than words deep spiritual feelings and I believe good music is inspired of God to turn our hearts to Him. I am so very grateful for the ways music blesses my life! I am currently getting ready to leave home to serve a mission for my church with my husband in another country. As hard as this will be to leave our home and family and be so far away, we have complete faith that it is what the Lord wants us to do so that we can bring the gospel of Jesus Christ into the lives of others who may be looking for truth, but need help finding it.
