Hi I'm Ethan

I love the Pacific Northwest, and spend much of my time running, biking, and hiking here. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I eat, sleep, and live distance running. When I'm not training for track or cross country, I spend my time learning. I have enjoyed taking classes in economics, physics, geography, statistics, psychology, business, and history, and I still don't know which of these I want to pursue for my career! This past year I was a freshman at BYU in Provo, Utah. I had an amazing time continuing my education, meeting new people, and running, but I chose to take a two year break from college to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was shocked and overjoyed to get my call to Rome, Italy. I will be serving here in the Rome mission until May 2017. During these two years I will work as hard as I can to help people know that God loves them and invite them to come unto Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I live the gospel of Jesus Christ because it brings lasting joy and peace that cannot be duplicated by anything in this world. I have built a perfect trust in the doctrine of my church through my own experimentation. I have never once regretted keeping a commandment or following a principle of the Church. Simply put, the gospel is a composition of the truths of eternity. I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to gain a testimony, because my life is so much better with it. Nothing that can happen in this mortal world is a cause of too much concern for me, because I know that this life is just one speck on the scale of eternity. I say this with full confidence as just an eighteen year old boy with very little education or worldly experience, because of the testimony I have received from living the gospel and praying to know of its truthfulness.

How I live my faith

Because I spent several years learning to play the piano, I had the opportunity to accompany songs in church, and sometimes I even got to play the organ in front of the whole congregation. Although it takes some time to keep up my skills and prepare to play for my fellow church members, I love this responsibility because of the spirit of peace that good music can always bring. I have always enjoyed establishing relationships with and helping people in my ward through the home teaching program. In my student ward at BYU, I served as a sunday school teacher. Right now my calling is full time, as I serve as a missionary!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Mormons are not required to serve missions. However, young men consider it a sacred duty and privilege to dedicate two years of our lives sharing the gospel when we are at least eighteen years of age. Young women who are nineteen years old, as well as senior men, women, and couples, also spend varying amounts of time serving missions because of their strong testimonies and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
