Hi I'm Jennifer Baker

I am a student at Brigham Young University studying theatre and film. I love my family, learning, and Jesus Christ!

About Me

I am a student at Brigham Young University. My interests include film, theatre, history, and psychology. I love the outdoors and taking hikes in the mountains. My favorite pastimes are attending plays, performing Shakespeare, and teaching youth. I currently work as a Shakespeare/acting instructor and film production coordinator. I enjoy vacations to Disneyland with my family and taking weekend trips to local towns. I have a passion for family history and piecing to together my family's story.

Why I am a Mormon

My family is new to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My father joined the church when he was 16, and my mother's parents joined the church shortly before she was born. I have come to know of the difference the gospel of Jesus Christ can make in a person's life. It truly changes lives. While there is much sorrow and fear in the world, our Savior Jesus Christ waits for us with open and waiting arms. He loves us and will support us through whatever trials we face. We can prepare to live with him again. I know that Heavenly Father is mindful of us and that he knows your name. I know that the first word spoken by our Heavenly Father in the restored church was the name of a 14-year-old boy. Our Heavenly Father is perfectly aware of you; He loves you and desires with all his heart for you to return to his presence. Please take the opportunity to come to know our Heavenly Father and Savior. They love you. They know you. They know your strengths. They know your potential. They will bless you with truth, knowledge, wisdom, and love that you require. Turn to them in love, and you will see that they have always been reaching for you.

How I live my faith

I love to live my faith through service to others. My favorite opportunities are those which allow me to help those in need. I particularly love teaching youth and helping them discover their potential. Teaching theatre has given me the opportunity to share my faith through example and love; I love seeing the kids come together in love and harmony over time. I additionally love to serve the dead through participating in family history work. By discovering my ancestors, I am able to take their names to the temple so they can receive blessings that will help them become more like our Father in Heaven. I feel their presence in my life as I serve and uplift them.

What is the First Vision?

Jennifer Baker
As a 14-year-old boy, the prophet Joseph Smith began to be greatly confused about which church he should join. Many churches claimed to teach the truth, but disagreed with each other over various points of doctrine. In the spring of 1820, Joseph decided to enter a grove of nearby trees to pray. He humbly asked to know which church he should join. In his own words, Joseph said, "I saw a pillar of light, exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. As the light rested upon me, I saw two personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other--This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph. They instructed him to refrain from joining any church, as none at that time possessed the priesthood authority instituted by our Savior. Joseph's vision was a powerful beginning to the Restoration of Jesus Christ's church on the earth. Our Heavenly Father does answer prayers. He knows your name! He loves you and is aware of your needs. Like Joseph Smith, you too can receive personal revelation through the gift of prayer. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Jennifer Baker
Being a Mormon is an opportunity for eternal happiness. We believe that our Heavenly Father instituted a plan for us to become truly happy in this life and the life to come. As we study the scriptures, draw near to our Heavenly Father in prayer, and attend church meetings, we can learn more about his will for us and our potential to receive true joy. Being Mormon is a happy experience in which we and our families may progress to become more like our Heavenly Father. We learn to serve others and contribute to our society in whatever way we can. What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Jennifer Baker
The Atonement is a means prepared by our Heavenly Father to help us receive his glory. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, atoned for our sins as he suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane. There he took upon himself all the pains, sins, sorrows, and earthly trouble we would individually have to experience in life. Although we cannot fully understand its nature, the Atonement provides a source of comfort and relief through Christ. We can lean on him for support and he will bare us up. We can become cleansed through his great atoning sacrifice. Show more Show less
