Hi I'm Loren Atwood

I grew up in Emmett, Idaho. Right now I am studying Chemical Engineering at BYU Provo and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

When people ask me what I like to do, I often have a rough time giving specific examples because I like so many different things that it depends on my mood. However some of the activities that I tend to enjoy a little more are playing piano, singing, reading books, playing video games, playing soccer, and playing ultimate frisbee. I also really enjoy watching movies like the avengers, hunger games, older disney movies, as well as play board games of every type. Right now I am in college at BYU Provo and find that it isn't always easy to find time to do all these fun things, but I still find time to unwind.

Why I am a Mormon

There was a time in my life where I didn't feel much emotion and didn't really believe in God or Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, but Todd Walker, a teacher at church, befriended me and shared with me how to pray to know if they existed. He showed true brotherly love in the ways that he reached out to me and I opened my heart just enough to be able to recognize what God's love feels like. He invited me to read the Book of Mormon and pray to ask God if it is true. I did it to know if Christ is true and I felt it strongly in my heart. I have not backed away from God since and have always tried to keep Him close.

How I live my faith

It isn't always easy to keep up the balance of life, but I find that when I keep God at the center of my thoughts and actions everything falls into place. On Sundays I participate a lot during church helping those around me with questions and sharing what I learn from my daily spiritual experiences. I have read the Kind James version of the Bible many times as well as the Book of Mormon and love to quote scripture from both of them. I find that studying from them every morning before starting the day makes me feel happier and enjoy life a little more. I also recognize that I can do nothing truly well without God's help each day.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Loren Atwood
The Bible is the word of God. We believe that it is extremely important for our salvation and daily happiness to study from words written down by prophets of God. While we believe that God inspires many people for good, to be a true prophet, God has to have specifically chosen the person to be a special mouthpiece for His words. We also believe that God has chosen prophets for many parts of the world besides just the Jews in Israel which is why we believe that the Book of Mormon is scripture as well as the Bible. Besides being written by prophets, the scriptures are completely centered on Christ and contain messages from God specific to the people that they were given to. This is why each part of scripture can be so different. As we read the scriptures with the Holy Spirit, we are able to discern how the scriptures apply to our daily life today. Show more Show less
