Hi I'm Blaine

I'm a geek, a biker, a car nut, a science fiction fan, a grandad, a husband, and a Mormon.

About Me

I could never figure out how to get someone to pay me for riding motorcycles, so I settled on getting paid to play with computers. My first exposure to computers were the 60's era monsters with punch card readers and reel-to-reel tape drives that my dad worked with. The first one I got my hands on was an Apple ][+, and since then it's been all sorts of hardware & software. I like making and fixing things, and I can almost always put back together what I've taken apart. I enjoy riding motorcycles and driving, and tinkering with both cars & bikes. I love the outdoors, and feel blessed to have grown up in the Rocky Mountains. I've loved reading since I was a little kid. Mom loves to tell the tale of me coming home from the first day of 1st Grade, distraught because they didn't teach me how to read on the first day. I'm blessed with a wonderful wife, and God definitely had a hand in bringing us together. I like to tell people that I don't have any children, but I do have four grandchildren!

Why I am a Mormon

Though I was born and raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I have found out for myself that it is true. I have wandered a couple of times, but the Lord in his goodness has always, gently, kindly, patiently, brought me back. I was probably one of the shyest kids ever, and when it came time to think about serving a full time mission, the thought of talking to total strangers for two years filled me with with as much fear as it did Jonah. Fortunately, as the Lord persuaded me to serve Him, I was spared the encounter with a big fish! As I've served, I've found the truth of Christ's declaration in Ether 12:27: And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them. He has turned my weakness in speaking into a strength. As He has done for many other weaknesses.

How I live my faith

Currently I'm blessed to teach Sunday School. I love the opportunity to teach and testify of Jesus Christ and his Gospel, and love seeing the difference that they make in people's lives. I've served in all sorts of callings: teaching children, clerk, secretary, full time missionary, bishop's counselor, bishop and temple worker. I'm not a morning person, but for 10 years I got up at 3:30am most every Saturday to be ready to start in the Temple at 5am. Working in the Temple on Saturday mornings also meant giving up a number of opportunities to go motorcycle riding with friends, but there no way I can call that a sacrifice. There are wonderful blessings that come from serving in the House of the Lord. It often seems much easier to feel the influence of the Holy Spirit there.
