Hi I'm Jerry

I grew up in a small town in Utah. I'm married and have eight children and 25 grandchildren. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Living on a small farm, I learned to appreciate the value of work. I enjoyed working at the side of my dad and siblings. After graduating from high school and completing a year of university studies, I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Central America. That was my first exposure to a foreign language. Though initially I found learning Spanish very difficult, I soon developed a love for the language and went on to pursue a graduate degree in foreign language education. I spent the next three plus decades helping others become Spanish teachers. A couple of years after my mission, I was married, graduated from college, and joined the U.S. Army. While in the army, I spent a year learning another foreign language and then was stationed in Korea for a year. Upon completing my military obligation, I completed graduate education and began a career as a university professor, from which I retired last year after 37 years. I have eight wonderful children and 25 grandchildren. My wife and I are currently serving a mission for the L.D.S. Church in Nauvoo, Illinois.

Why I am a Mormon

For me, being a Mormon isn’t just a religious belief; it’s a way of life that brings tremendous satisfaction. It gives purpose to life here on earth and provides hope for an eternal life with my family members after this life. I can’t express in words how grateful I am for the direction now and opportunities in the future that the gospel of Jesus Christ offers.

How I live my faith

I have had callings in the Church working both with youth (scout master, for example) as well as adult leadership callings, such as bishop and other presidency responsibilities. I am currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois. My principal assignment here is as a teamster, taking guests on wagon and carriage rides around parts of Old Nauvoo.
